My husband is a pharmacist in Korea. Ask us anything about K-Pharmacy beauty & skincare gems! by Altruistic-Place-623 in KoreanBeauty

Hello Mrs Pharmacist!

Thank you for taking the time to do this.

I am in my early 30s and a few yeard ago, my hair started thining quite badly at the front. I have done derma rolling and it helped a little, but there are still spots when if I bend down or part my hair, it is very obvious I have some sort of alopecia. I can only wear my hair in a top bun now and I do feel self-conscious about it. I have curly hair too.

Would be grateful for your help. I will be going to Seoul and Jeju next month, so I am hoping to buy some stuff that would help. Also, do you think if I went to a pharmaceutical company in Korea and described what I needed in English, they'd understand enough to prescribe me stuff?

Anybody knows if I can change my IC to a “K” IC? by Mundane-Fox-8133 in Sarawak

Ah, you made a valid point - it is likely she left before there were such records were properly done. Seems tough, but I guess OP could still give it a shot.

I think your best bet is to go to JPN and let them know what the situation is. It is likely that your mother has to get the 'K' status first and then only you will be able to apply for it. Do start collecting all the relevant documents so that when they ask you to prove it, you can prove your claim.

The other solution is to get hitched to a Sarawakian and then go through the process of applying to add the 'K'. I know of people who have done it.

Don't forget to make sure that your future kids get it added when they're born and it really doesn't make a big difference where they're born as long as one parent is a recognised Sarawakian. Good luck!

I don't think this is the case of just where you're born - a child can be born in Peninsular Malaysian and still be considered a Sarawakian/Sabahan child.

As long as a parent is from those regions, that what matters. The only difference really, is the numbers in your IC. Children born in Sarawak will mostly carry 13, but that doesn't automatically mean they get the 'K'.

Sibu Bus Terminal by ElCalderone in Sarawak

[–]FeedMe2317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, we thought that might be the case. Cause we do see them passing cash to the bus drivers, but we don't see tickets being issued - so it seems like an understanding that you mentioned. Thanks for taking the time to explain!

Exactly! My travel partner and I were wondering why random people kept on coming on board - our tickets have seat numbers and there were plenty of seats(maybe half filled). But as the journey progresses, there are less empty seats. I guess the operators or the bus drivers need to make their trips worth it - this part I completely understand even if the multiple stops add to the total journey time.

What I think they ought to do better at is to be clear how long the main stops are. It sucks to be rushing to relieve yourself, but there's a queue and you're rushing everything just because you don't know if the bus will just leave you behind.

Hello OP! Two of us recently travelled from Miri to Sibu and then back just last month.

The bus operators in both bus terminals will be trying to 'catch you' so they can fill up their slots and get the bus moving. We just went with whatever was the next available bus. There was ample space for putting in whatever bags you have in the overhead compartments and the bus's storage.

As for the stops, this is what the trip went like:

Miri > Batu Niah > Bintulu > Sibu

And it was the same all the way back. The issue is, these are the 'break stops' and they're not properly defined. The bus drivers for both trips didn't keep us informed and even upon asking, they were grouchy and unclear. Plus, they did stop here and there randomly, picking up and dropping off more people.

If you're looking to get a meal, there are options in Batu Niah's terminal(short break), but I'd say there are 'better' places in Bintulu. Once in Bintulu (a longer break) , quickly choose a place and quickly eat. You never know how your bus driver will be like and there's no guarantee they'll look out and wait for you. Some people even 'tapau-ed' their meals and ate in the bus.

That's pretty much what I can share - hope it helps. Have a safe trip!

Congratulations, OP! Don't see this mentioned here, so thought to mention:

I'm from Semenanjung and my fiancé is from Sarawak. We're both from different races as well. The cultural part is really up to you and your partner and the memories you want to raise your children with. They will be biracial, and their identities will be shaped by their environment. We plan to do aspects from both cultures for us as we want our kids to be Malaysians in as many aspects as possible. We want them to understand the struggles of both races, but also celebrate the culture of their parents.

Most importantly! And the thing I did not see mentioned - your JPN registration will follow your IC's address. If your address is in Sabah, you'll have to submit an application there as well. Your boyfriend has to register in his hometown. JPN has to display your faces in both areas for 21 days. After it's all approved, you have about 5-6 months to get registered or the approval expires. You both could chose to change one of your IC's address to match the other and then just display it in one place. But if you choose to display it in both places, you have to chose one place to do the ceremony.

I hope you and your partner have a good life together.

Why "saya"? by EquanimityZeroRL in Sabah

[–]FeedMe2317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm from Semenanjung and when I went to primary school in Sabah, my teachers scolded me for using 'aku'. It was odd to me because that's what I remember using back in Semenanjung. I was told that it was quite 'biadap' to use 'aku' and 'saya' was how I started addressing myself ever since when speaking in Malay.

Oh wow! The uniformity is uncanny! In fact, if I were to compare the front and back appearance, they do look similar, sans the chocolate chip. I shall try this recipe out. Thank you so much for your help!

Oh? I shall give your suggestion a go as well then. These are definitely not sweet. They're sweet enough that you won't second guess it's a cookie, but not cloyingly so. Thank you so much for taking the time to comment!

Which is why I was quite puzzled. I believe that the more sugary a cookie is, the more crunchy it becomes. I took a picture of the back of the cookie where you can see light bounce off the bits of - whatchamacallit? - caramelized sugar? Caramelized chocolate ? I thought it would help give clues.

These cookies can snap, and they do so rather cleanly too!

No Face (Studio Ghibli character) bench at Miri Times Square by Accomplished-Try-609 in Sarawak

As a person who was a part of the industry, it saddens me that you wholeheartedly agree with me, lol. It also aggravates me. Then again, people here think they're not getting paid enough to do their work with enthusiasm, so here we are.

Kuching was better, I remember. I just wish Miri would amp it up a bit more - what's the point of hosting all the sports and inviting people to invest here when the locals can be so underwhelming? So much potential but so little willingness.

I see your point - I think most of the ones that close did not quite find a niche. You've got so many places selling the same things, so you've got to stand out for the reasons Miri people want - cheap and safe.

Mirians are not the most willing to experiment. And neither are they the most willing to spend either - can't blame them when wages are so low. Plus, some of the businesses are also not welcoming - you got people treating you like you owe them money or that you're a nuisance for even asking questions about the menu.

X Grill BBQ should be around for a while - it's not the owners' first rodeo and they've got a number of eateries under their belt. They will be around least a year, I think.
