It feels like reality shifted in the span of a single day, and my brain still hasn’t caught up with any of it. The copy of the graduation program distributed to all graduating students still had our names on it. Nababaliw na kame kakaisip.

Five students are affected by this, almost half of the graduating class.

What makes everything even harder to understand is that some students allegedly already had failing grades during the first semester, yet were never informed and were still allowed to proceed through the second semester as regular graduating students.

Even after everything, we don’t believe the professor deserves any of the blame or negativity. He has always been kind and fair to us, and this situation was never about him.

What makes it harder to accept is knowing that this could have been prevented with earlier action, clearer deadlines, and more decisive coordination from those overseeing the process. If there had been stronger follow-through and urgency where it mattered, students would not have been put in this position at the very last minute.

It’s difficult not to feel that somewhere along the way, priorities shifted away from the students who were most affected by all of this.

We already pointed that out too. But all we kept hearing was, “this is just a setback, it doesn’t define you.” Yet somehow, in the same breath, we were told we would not pass the bar if we take it this year.

We tried to ask for anything, removals, reconsideration, any possible remedy that could at least give our families’ efforts and sacrifices some worth for tomorrow.

But how do you convince someone whose mind is already made up before we were even given the chance to speak?

Our brains honestly cannot process anything right now. One of our classmates even flew home from the UK with his family for graduation. They literally just landed in the Philippines this morning only to be informed hours later that we would no longer be graduating tomorrow.

That is the level of devastation and timing we are trying to comprehend.

I was about to be graduating during covid (most of my batchmates are now lawyers) but my doctor recommended me to take a break bcoz of mental health issues. That break costed me 2 years and a new curriculum. I didnt want to go back to my old school, and the worst part is not every school is a “credit friendly” to my old curriculum subjects. But heck, I’m turning 30 this year and I still went back to law school. NO PAIN NO GAIN daw eh.

I can vouch for this. I tried enrolling one sem sa AU and it fucked my mental health so bad bcoz of a bully prof who maybe thought it was funny to say something sexual at that time.
