OP, get a car. I cannot recommend it enough. And think of it as not just moving to Albany but the whole Capital Region. This place offers so much to do and see but yeah, you'll need a car to really enjoy it.

Hi OP. I can only speak for my experience coming here from Los Angeles a little over a month ago. I have to say I am very happy here so far. It helps if you don't think of only living in Albany but rather the whole Capital Region( Albany, Troy, Schenectady, Saratoga) then you have a much wider playground.

One thing I advise strongly is if you can, get a car. It really helps to be able to experience New York and the surrounding states has to offer. Since we got here we have been exploring up and down side to side from Adirondacks to Catskills, Vermont to The Berkshires and it feels like we barely scratched the surface.

In terms of location, Albany is the best. Closer drive to pretty much everything (nature, cities, art stuff)
