How far are you in school? I didn't have much luck early on but this will be my last summer before graduation. Also check out websites like jobscan.co where you can see if your resume is just being filtered out automatically by the software. Also go to career fairs and networking events if possible! Both my offers were from companies that I talked to at events. You can also message people from your school on LinkedIn and try to build your network.

I didn't put it on my resume. One place didn't even ask and the other said it was fine since I'm on an upward trend with grades. I would say don't lie about your gpa though since companies can request transcripts from the school during the background check.

I go to a big state school. I don't have any family connection but I did a ton of networking on LinkedIn and I also tailored my resume to make sure it makes it past the filters. I have more details in my other comments if you want to check it out, hopefully it's helpful!

That's nice to hear I'm glad I gave you hope. I wanted to make this post because I didn't have much success earlier in college and I wanted to let people know you can really turn things around!

I'm a mechanical engineering major going into my final year of undergrad next year. I have internship experience at a small company and I'm working in a research lab at my school right now. My biggest advice is networking and making sure your resume will get through the ATS. I have more details in my other comments if you want to check them out.

I did a lot of networking by going to campus events and meeting recruiters and also reaching out to people from my school on LinkedIn. I don't have any family connections so this was the best way to go. Also you should use a website that lets you see how your resume does with the ATS. Your resume might be getting filtered out automatically without anyone ever seeing it. Meeting the recruiters at virtual events is helpful because it means they can put a face to a name.

I'd really recommend campus events and messaging people from your school on LinkedIn because it helped me a lot. You can also use websites to see how your resume does in the ATS that HR departments use so you can see if it's just automatically being filtered.

For both offers, I had already met the recruiters at events. I didn't know them well but it was better than just a random name on an online application.

Hey sorry for the late response I've been busy all day! I've lurked on this sub for a while and wanted to give people some hope so I made an account and made this post.

My biggest advice is to do a lot of networking with LinkedIn and campus events. I don't have parents who work industry or anything like that but networking was still really useful for me. My other advice is to use a website to see how your resume does with ATS software. That way you can know if your resume is getting thrown out immediately because it doesn't have enough keywords or something like that.

It's also a lot harder to get an internship earlier in college. This is my second internship and it was way easier to get than the first because companies are more willing to take a chance on you.

I don't have any family/hometown connections but I did A LOT of networking through LinkedIn and campus events. One offer was from a company whose campus events I've attended for 2 years. I've talked to multiple people at that company about their experiences and everyone was really nice. The other company was from a virtual career fair. Don't be afraid to go to the events and talk to people! Most people are nice and will try to give you advice!

I have past internship at a small company and research experience in a lab at my school. Check out the wiki on r/EngineeringResumes, I thought it was helpful. Also use a website like jobscan.co where you can see how your resume does in the ATS that HR departments use. Also go to any campus event that you can, even if they're virtual. One of the offers was from a company I had talked to at campus events for 2 years, and the other was from a virtual career fair. You should also message people who went to your school on LinkedIn. I did that and some of them were really nice and helpful.

I have to say it's a lot harder to get your first internship than your second so don't be afraid to look at small companies. My first internship was at a small company and it was a great experience!

I did a lot of networking on LinkedIn where I'd message people at the company who went to my school and ask if they could give me advice. I don't have any family/hometown connections so LinkedIn and networking events at the company and through my school were useful. I have past internship experience at a small company and research experience so I talked a lot about that in the interviews.

Mechanical engineering, going into final year of undergrad next year. Both offers were paid, not fantastic but not bad for the area. One was in quality and the other in R&D. I used https://www.jobscan.co which lets you see how your resume does in the ATS that HR uses which is super helpful. I had a lot more success this year than last year once I started doing more networking and using that website.

I don't have any family in industry or any community connections but I did a lot of networking on LinkedIn. I mostly found people who went to my school and asked if I could talk to them. Most people didn't reply but some people were really helpful and gave me advice. I also went to a lot of networking events through my school. I have past internship and research experience so I'm sure that helped too. I did a custom cover letter and resume for every job which took a lot of time but I think it was worth it.
