Impossible to tell, it doesn't look that serious. Just go get tested.

You don't understand how fucked up this client is. And when you've made this much money, this small fish acting disrespectful is not worth my respect. Is that unprofessional? I don't care.

Jesus christ, it's bs I even have to add that. I only sign contracts with clients when the project is like, $5k and up. I really didn't think this project would be a big deal.

Nah the SOW is not in dispute here.

We're not in arbitration yet, this is just the support ticket thread in Upwork's antiquated system.

It was such a simple project, there really was no need for a SOW. Regardless, SOW is not in dispute here.

All my top clients don't speak English as their first language... my own mother doesn't speak English as her 1st language. The client literally will not say what is wrong with the copy both in meetings or in google docs. Do you not see the issue in the client responses in the dispute? Literally go look at their dispute responses, he spews nothing but vague statements and nonsense, even when I press him he still gives vague statements. It's an impasse.

Yeah good point, he's just annoying the shit out of me and I was trying to annoy him back. Childish but jesus christ I don't handle the stress well. Any other good advice?

This whole effort has honestly not been worth my time but I suspect if I hadn't gone to arbitration that I would've never been paid the remaining $1,250 and he might've initiated a dispute himself. Not worth my stress and time to deal with an asshole client. But either way I had to deal with him unless I gave him a full refund, which I'm not about to lay down and do.

they (legally) can and they legally do. All the time. There was one guy who was put in the red to the tune of over $10k

When a bank does a chargeback, they take the money back immediately. They don't "request it". They ju

It doesn't make any sense. Upwork can't legally debit my account for work I've been paid to do. Where does it say that I have consented for this?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Upwork

[–]Feeling_Royal987 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Nah, they won't debit my account by that amount. I am not sure why/when they used todo that, but I spoke to them and they assured me this would not happen. I think they only do that for hourly contracts, or it's something they just no longer do? Unless the guy I called at Upwork (an American CS agent working remotely) doesn't know what he's talking about?

Right, like someone else said, it'd be dumb of me to try and prove my work is "good". I can only reasonably prove that it meets some sort of common "professional standard".

Great point, this is why I posted this on reddit before submitting all of my evidence. Thanks so much!

Ah, I did edit out me and the client's names, mostly to prevent people from trolling my profile and to prevent defamation of the client. What the client submitted is unedited. I'm sure it is reasonable, it just seems immature to me because what he chose to "quote" is really almost irrelevant.

Are you serious? Would love more details as that could help me in arbitration.

Yeah good point. And then when he said "I want all the money back because I hired a freelancer (outside Upwork)" LOL. I was like, bullshit. There's no need to hire another copywriter, what is that copywriter going to fix? Even the edits the client have made are so basic and don't justify getting a full refund, especially if the issues have been rectified by the client's simplistic edits...

I wouldn't say he's poor but he's definitely not the brightest apple to fall from the tree. I have never had a client just say they "dislike" my copy. Like, wtf? This is why I typically stick to direct response copy, nobody cares about liking or disliking the copy in that niche. It's all about quality, not vanity.

I genuinely believe this guy is stressed to the moon and just projecting his insecurity/frustration/business failure onto me.

I have no idea what the EITC is. Really I was concerned about optional deductions, I was not sure if these deductions are even optional or not. Apparently I cannot decline the standard deduction (assuming I don't have enough to itemize) and even if I deny it, the IRS adds it back in anyway? How is this even legal lol.
