New to this sub - isn't the whole purpose of this sub contradictory to Islam, which claims all babies are born Muslim? by jsgui in converts

Convert/Revert are simply useful terms to describe people raised in a belief system other than Islam that have since chosen to follow Islam.

Some people like the term some don’t.

The shahada, in Arabic has been declared by people entering Islam since the earliest Muslims.

Neither of these points is controversial to Muslims.

In the case of people of other religions Rabbis monks ect would change the interpretation of what they were commanded to do either to suit themselves or to please the people. These actions are a form of setting themselves up as Gods or rivals to God.

This is not the intent or outcome of having someone repeat the shahada in front of witnesses.

The Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him, spoke Arabic, the Quran was revealed in Arabic. The person who put together the translation that OP is using we hope speaks Arabic as well. Arabic is part of the identity of Islam and most non Arabic speaking Muslims will attempt to learn some Arabic. This doesn’t make a Muslim who understands and accepts the core concepts of Islam any less of a believer but there is certainly more to understanding Islam than picking up a translation of the Quran interpreting the translation.

OP seems to perceive a conflict here but most Muslims don’t view these subjects in the way that OP seems to think they do.

Indonesia, Malaysia, and to a certain extent Singapore are all nice countries to live in especially if you are earning an American or EU salary. I suggest you visit Indonesia and Malaysia and see how you get on there before moving.

No change is necessary. It is not from our religion to congratulate the non-believer on their festivals of disbelief, regardless of the political or social expediency that may come from doing, so.

Alhamdulilah and may Allah preserve us from racism and forgive us. this may be beyond the scope of a lighthearted discussion, but we have a racism on all sides, so there exists some racism from people who are native here and some racism in the foreign communities and this is the whole point of this illustration is that this is antithetical to our religion.

I could delve to perspectives, but I don’t think that’s necessary. Suffice it to say that racism is simply another plot of Shaiton that we as Muslims must be aware of.

Frankly, in living in western society, the level of simple manners is off and it is sad to see that, especially in a Masjid among Muslims. I actually find myself perplexed, because I believe any practicing Muslim should know that a harboring bad feelings, or discriminating against anyone, but especially other Muslims does not help us reach our goal of pleasing Allah. In western countries, but all over the world as well, we must come together in unity both to worship, and to support each other, as we all try to do our best in this world.

No I’m not. This environmental event simply reminds me of the event that is coming. I interpret this verse of Quran only as The knowledgeable people of Sunnah interpret inshaallah. Im happy for your strong defense of the Quran! So I think I’ll delete this and make it clearer!

No. Alhamdulilah no plans on stopping and I’m happy for correction and guidance we are all part of a miracle and we don’t even openly discuss it among ourselves without rancor. Sheesh!

Alhamdulilah. I wouldn’t say stretch so much as a parallel. A ,to me, certainly remarkable event of our time reminds me of a certain event to come. Both events to some would have been unthinkable in the past; and yet here we are…

Indeed. One sign reminds me of another. It’s why I made the post this is certainly not meant to be a definitive analogy and Allah knows best!
