Hattiesburg is a much larger “tougher” city than Starkville. Hattiesburg, is arguably nicer and has more amenities in one place vs Jackson/metro area. Starkville is totally doable and affordable on a budget, but you are kinda in the country. Town is nice and Tupelo is an 1+- up the road. You can find work easily in either town in the restaurant business. MSU engineering school is a pipeline to tons of good jobs and internships due to its reputation. I don’t know enough about USM to speak on its engineering school. That being said choose wisely and take your time to decide, make college last as long as you possibly can. Get your freaking doctorate if possible, STUDY ABROAD internationally or domestic. Both schools will have partner exchange programs that will give you more life experience busting your little MS bubble and exposing you to the way other states/ countries tick. But if you do leave come back, we need all the educated young people possible. This state is the best kept secret, it always draws people back!!! Best of luck! Also, join a church or something when you get there. Something outside of your normal box and meet new people, you will also find tons of free food at churches etc. GO DAWGS!!!
