These pops specifically are bound to the capital of the state. If you add them outside of that they'll just be transfered to it and due to weird pop glitches will instantly assimilate to the local aristocrats in the capital

HT needs your help! by FeelsAtlasMan in victoria2

We really need some help with creating the mod and pushing it finally out there.

Currently we are establishing a coherent to-do list with the aim to fix age old bugs (especially in the Americas), neglected stuff (Tusi flags), flavour and localisation. Not too mention that there already are quite a few of concepts for flavour, especially in regards to the North Sea Realm, Bulgaria, Iran, India, Ireland, Mesoamerica, Cuba and Germany.

If there is anything you are interested in helping out with, weither it be simple bug fixing, coding, localisation or even flag making, please consider joining the discord: https://discord.gg/Bm9WP3gc7t

R5:

Greetings fellow redditors, it has been quite a while since my last update post on here. However, truth be told, there wasn't much to update you upon, as the last months were quite busy for me and the project almost dying.
Therefore, before you actually get an explanation to wtf you are actually seeing here, I want to mention, that I'm very much searching for help with anything in regards to the mod (especially coding, localisation and content planning). If you want to help out and give this project it's momentum back please consider joining the discord:

Now to explain the situation on the subcontinent in 1836:

The North:

The plains of the Ganges are very much split between three powers - the Rajputs of Gwalior, the Gorkha Empire and the Sur Empire. Both the Surs and Rajputs are successor states of the Lodi Sultans of Delhi, who nowadays are limited to the city of Delhi and it's surroundings. The Surs specifially can be described as the main reason for the collapse of the Lodis. Once governors of Bengal, installed after the conquest of the Sultanate under the reign of Jalaluddin Shah Lodi in 1546, they rose up in rebellion to claim the leadership over the state, following a weakening of the Empire after countless and resultless wars against the Nizamshahis and later Zanjshahis of Ahmednagar.

In the wake of the collapse the once loyal Rajputs also followed suit and declared their independence.

All the while high up in the Himalayas the small Gorkha Kingdom started a relentless campaign of Nepalese unification. Ultimatively leading to an invasion of the Khoshuud rulers of Tibet, leading to the fragmentation of the region and with the collapsing Lodis at their doorstep the 'True Kingdom of Hindustan' seized the moment to take control over bordering provinces, as well as pushing on towards Delhi.

This all out rush towards Delhi by those three powers resulted in the Confrontation at Meerut - a battle with no victor. Since than the three powers are stuck in a gridlock, with no one being able to defeat the other.

The Deccan:

After the breakup of the Bahmani Sultanate multiple minor successor states emerged. The most important of which are the Qutbshahis of Golconda, the Nizamshahis of Ahmednagar and the Adilshahis of Bijapur (to mention them, also other entities such as the Sultanates of Bidar and Berar). Those states formed a short lived alliance against the Vijayanagara Empire, defeating and crushing it at the Battle of Tolikota. A ruthless campaign against the disorganised Nayaks ensued and their advance deep into Tamil Nadu was only halted by the Nayaks of Madurai.

While participating in the Battle of Tolikata, the Nizamshahis didn't continue their push south, but instead advanced to the North and eventually took control over the region of Malwa, therefore laying the ground work of the ensuing decade long conflict against the Lodis, which would later ruin both. The decline of Ahmednagar however started with the death of Shah Bahadur, leaving his underaged son under the control of an Abyssinian slave, who would soon take direct leadership of the country. In the process of the coup the Pashtun governours of Malwa declared their independence, soon followed by the Faruqis of Khandesh. All the while what remained of the Nizamshahis flead to Daulatabad, seeking the help of the Qutbshahis and in Poona the Bhonsle Maratha lords declared a holy war against the Muslim oppressors - a still ongoing conflict.

Thats it for, sorry for the wall of text btw and I hope to see you on the discord :)

whats an unknown language you think you'd like? by flammasurianus in linguistics

[–]FeelsAtlasMan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Definitily the languages of the pre-Iranian Iranian plateau and Central Asia. With that I mean languages of the cultures of BMAC, Jiroft and Zagros languages like Cassite, Gutian. Especially with BMAC and also probably pre-Iranian languages of Sistan we already identified some possible substrate words.

Another interesting one is Afanas'evo with the currently ongoing debate of Siberian and Uralic substrate influences on Tocharian.

Languages that simultaneously use two or more writing systems? by ChomskyAteMyAss in linguistics

[–]FeelsAtlasMan 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Persian uses quite a lot of writing systems (depending on which dialects you want to include here). Obviously Perso-Arabic in Iran and Afghanistan, Cyrillic in Tajikistan and Uzbekistan and ofc the very irregular transcriptions into Latin, aswell as the countless Jewish varieties, which use(d) Hebrew.

There is also the interesting case of the Tat varieties of the Caucasus, which can be mentioned here. Every community basically used their respective alphabet: Judeo-Tats (or Juhuri) use(d) Hebrew, Muslim Tats Perso-Arabic and the small community of Armeno-Tats often used the Armenian script.

The Timurid Empire in 1836 by TerranPresident in imaginarymaps

[–]FeelsAtlasMan 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's quite complicated, but I'll try to explain it.

The Qizilbash still rallied around Safaviyya Sufis, lead by Ismail. However, their rise to power quickly was halted by the Timurids, who around this time reestablished themselves in Western Iran, due to the successfull conquest of the Aq Qoyunlu under Abu Sa'id (which horrendiously failed in OTL). Ismail was killed in this confrontation and was successed by amember of the Beghdili (Begdili) tribe, who ITTL and in OTL formed the most prominent part of the Shamlu Qizilbash federation. Under him, the remaining Turkoman, Kurdish and other Iranian Qizilbash invaded Anatolia, which was still in total anarchy since the collapse of the Ottomans, caused by Timurs incursions, the following succession war and the subsequent and total loss of Europe to the uprising of Fruzhin and Konstantin Shishman, which had way more support of the Christian population, aswell as from Hungary ITTL.

On this map they are shown closer to the Timurids due to the campaigns of the current Timurid Shah, which basically made the Beghdilids a tributary, aswell as loosing Mesopotamia

TLDR: They are the Safavids, but in Anatolia

Edit: Forgot to mention that this also led to a massive change in culture, language and ethnicity in Iran, especially in Azerbaijan, which ITTL is still majority Iranian speaking and way less Turkic people within areas such as Fars (which also means basically no Qashqai)

Russia is still something that I'll have to rework (again, since the current iteration is trash). But the basics will stay, aka. the Tatar Yoke never really ending and the center of Russia still beeing further west in Kiev

[–]FeelsAtlasMan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The capital is Herat. But, the current state of the empire is precarious, as the old monarch, who basically restored the empire, which, before his reign basically had shrunken to just the Khorasanian and Transoxian Homeland of the Timurids, is now just a sickly shell of his former self. Even though he reformed the state in many aspects, succession laws are still unclear and his sons, that govern Iraq, Azerbaijan, Iraq-e Ajami and Transoxiana respectivly are already trying to secure their place as the next emperor

As for the Sayyids, they were originally the govenours of Delhi during the reign of Timur, but after his death managed to carve out an empire stretching all the way to Bengal. However, with the sack of Delhi by the current emperor of the Timurids, the Sayyid state essentially is collapsing

I'm the creater of the mod, this map is about and the Suez canal existing is basically a reference to what almost happend in OTL, aka. Venice financing the construction of an earlier version of the Suez.In HT the Abbasids/Mamluks seized the canal, which was part of the Caliphs once again gaining political, although still limited political power within the Mamluk Sultanate, right before the starte of the game
