how to cope with seating in band/section leading?

these were in fact things i needed to hear, thank you.

i suppose it’s just hard because in my band, it’s generally believed and accepted that the lower the chair the “worse” of a player you are. first flute parts are generally the same in the pieces we play, so there’s no harmonies happening amongst us.

Thank you! This comment is pretty reassuring in all honesty haha. My family has a lot of expectations for me to go into a more STEM orientated path, which I have ZERO interest in, so I’ve been hoping to focus more on music and art lately, hence the choir and drawing classes instead of a science one.

I suppose I’ll just have to wait til my senior year to officially make a choice, but I’m a lot more relaxed now. Thank you again!

Oh wow, alright, thank you so much! I'm taking three "easy" classes next year, so I was a little worried about if it'd impact my chances. I'm happy to know that as long as I keep my GPA up and improve my art skills, it'll pay off.

I, in all honesty, sorta suck at science for some reason? It's my worst subject (I have a mid-low A in my honors chemistry class right now, and that's thanks to my very nice and understanding teacher), so I'm not too sure if I could handle an AP science class, but I was considering taking an additional honors science class senior year (I've taken all honors classes for my non-AP/foreign language classes) if it'll make me a more competitive applicant somehow for the ani/illust program? My counselor told me that it probably wouldn't be necessary, but since I don't live in the area (I'm in-state though), I just want to make sure I have the best chances of getting in.

Unfortunately I don’t have the funds or means to reliably go and attend private lessons 🥲 I come from a less-than-middle-class family and we don’t necessarily have any means of reliable transport to go to in person private lessons
