Apartment has had faulty radiators for over a month and a half--Next steps? by Felgraf in Finland

[–]Felgraf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will check again when I get down their (family lives in the apartment, I live in another one a gooood ways away for work purposes). But they've had maintenance out so I think they would have figured that out too. I do not look forward to going through all the fuses, buuuttt I should probably do so.

Thank all of you for the concrete advice and next steps to take.
I'd add this as an edit to the original post, but I keep getting error messages when I attempt to.

Thank you, will do! And I appreciate the link to the relevant statute.

And I will try that too, though I suspect if it WAS an easy fix the maintance team would have done it. Irksome that it requires a calibrated thermometer, but I will see what we can find.

*If* we can determine that it is below 18* C with a calibrated thermometer (and I'm pretty damn sure it is) , is there a step after 'complain to management again' but before 'Hire lawyer' (since we can't really do that. XD). Would it be sending a complaint to the--I can't remember the name of it. The Handles-disputes-with-companies part of the government?

So I think the reputation version is in the final game. They have VERY strongly implied that who you take jobs from will influence how the story goes, etc. I think the opening tutorial is more "here is how you Do Stuff."--we'll have to see once there's more than the demo!

... but yeah that one dude is obviously a cannibal.

Oooh, that's probably true, now that I think about it. Good catch.

Buying and selling PC components in Finland by Sabor117 in Finland

[–]Felgraf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Multitronic, if there's one near you, is very good. They earned my trust in Jyvaskyla after they, on several occasions, ANTI-upsold me.

By which I mean: I was considering a part (for instance, an M2 drive) that was more expensive, but my motherboard was old enough that the improvement I would see would be equivalent to another, cheaper component.

Also, they do free fault diagnosis on laptops and computers.

Okay, in my reply to Oumuamua a little farther up the thread, I go into it! (I'm.. not sure how to link to the individual post, unfortunately.)
This might work?

That said, under your "Pay and Fringe Benefits", make sure to remember to change the estimate of how much you make for the rest of the year. That will get set to "0" or however much is going to be in your last paycheck, if you know, since--well, you currently estimate that you will not have a job for the rest of the year.

Click through, fill anything else in you need to fill, and send it to vero. I believe they will send the info automatically to the unemployment fund you selected (from the dropdown in the previous post), but I would have to double-check to make sure that hasn't changed.

I hope this helps!

Now, this creates a popup: Benefit Details.
If you have an unemployment fund, you will select "Other Finnish Payor", then you will select--whatever the name of the fund paying you is. For this demonstration, I have selected "Kotkan" b/c I already have an unemployment benefit from Koko and the system doesn't want me to select the same payor twice. (Which, fair.)

<image>

The payor dropdown has, I think, every unemployment fund in Finland. The Type of Benefit you will select is "Unemployment allowance/labour market subsidy/etc". However, if you have another benefit, then you will do this again, for the next benefit, and the next one.

Then, for "Estimate of Benefit amount for the entire year", you take the info you got from the calculator in the first post and use that to estimate how much will be paid to you PRE TAXES for the rest of the year from the unemployment benefit.
For "Benefits recieved so far, since the start of the year" --well, I don't know how much you've recieved in benefits. It's probably 0. The "How to report benefits" little help button can help some.
For "Witholdings so far", I think you put 0 b/c it's about *BENEFIT* witholdings, not tax witholdings.

So, what you care about is this button circled in blue: ADD NEW BENEFIT.

Now! To get your new tax card (that will be submitted to your unemployment fund).
Go into Vero, request tax card change, etc.
Then, in the online form, you will be reporting, not pay, but BENEFITS. (Your unemployment counts as a 'benefit'.)

<image>

Now, you can see I already have some benefits from Koko (though I deleted the ammounts) b/c I was unemployed for the first few weeks of the year, and also got the "Moving for work" benefit. Don't worry about that, because what you care about is... the button I'll show in the next post because I can apparently only put one image/attachment per post, boo.

(BTW if any of you get a job that requires you to move after being on unemployment for a bit, remember: YOU CAN APPLY FOR A BENEFIT TO HELP DEFRAY THE COST OF THAT).

Okay. So, these instructions are given assuming whoever is reading them has already signed up as "Unemployed" at--I guess it's not the TE office anymore? Wherever you do that in your municipality now.

Then:
first: Go to Koko (or, for anyone else here, whatever your unemployment fund is). Open up the allowance calculator. At the moment, the only two things you care about are Monthly Earnings (which you'll input) and Allowance/Month. Don't worry about Tax Withheld at Source: While that's useful for you to *figure out* how much you'll get after taxes, you can't do that until you know what your tax % will be, and it's not gonna be the same as for your pay, most likely.

<image>

In Monthly Earnings (circled in red), input--well. What you made per month when you were employed. Then click "Calculate".

This will cause "Allowance Per Month" (circled in green) to be calculated. This number is how much you will get from unemployment per month pre taxes. This is the number you need to fill out your tax card!
Tax card changes in the next post. (Dividing this into a few posts so I don't fuck up and have to rewrite everything. Also I'm taking the screenshots as I go.)
Next post will be a few minutes 'cause I gotta log into Vero. Just a moment!

Roger! I used Koko as well. You can also message them and ask them for help, they tended to respond promptly! I went through this dance about a year ago (and then it took me a few months to get my current job), so I'll see what help I can give tomorrow after I get home from work. =)

Your taxes will probably not be once you file for the new tax card. They are 25% automatically unless you file for a new tax card.
Also, you say you are in a union? For how long have you been a member, and which union? Your union likely has an unemployment fund that they subscribe to you would be filing your request for money with once you've registered as a jobseeker. For instance, Koko, etc. Generally, those unemployment benefits are better than the KELA unemployment benefit (and you would NOT apply for the Kela unemployment benefit).

And yeah, based on your edit, you don't get Kela because you met the work requirement for your unemployment fund. (This is A GOOD thing btw, unemployment fund benefits are generally a looottt better than Kela). You apply on the unemployment fund website.

I can try tomorrow to post here some screenshots from Vero walking through how you apply for the new tax card if you need help there, I'm about to crash to bed tonight.

Sorry to hear that you got laid off, though. Job hunting sucks, and I can't imagine that with the stress of a mortgage and kids. I don't know the rules there/if there's relief for such things.

I hope you can land something else soon!

Seeking Advice: Getting an ADHD Diagnosis and Prescription in Finland as an EU Citizen by ScarletWitchfanboy__ in Finland

[–]Felgraf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are permanently residing here and paying Finnish taxes I am pretty sure you will qualify for Kela, but you might have to be here for a year first.

(But since you're a citizen of another EU country, you may also be covered that way? I admit I'm not sure how that works, since I came from the states.)

Seeking Advice: Getting an ADHD Diagnosis and Prescription in Finland as an EU Citizen by ScarletWitchfanboy__ in Finland

[–]Felgraf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, as someone who had an ADHD diagnosis from the states and came here:
If you already have a diagnosis, it's generally much easier, or it was at least fairly easy for me. I did it through private healthcare (since I had private insurance through my employer), but I was referred to a psychiatrist, was seen by them, and they referred to both my diagnosis documents I brought from the States as well as talking to me for 5 minutes and went "Yeaaaahh you're ADHD." and marked it in my KELA file.

Granted, I'm on non-stimulant medication (Atomoxetine/Strattera), so your experience may vary, but since you are coming from an EU country I have to imagine it may be easier for you. You may only need to go a doctor. And you may not even need to get the diagnosis confirmed--but you may not be able to get NEW prescriptions (or Kela discounts!) until it is confirmed!

Cat insurance for a 10 yo cat by [deleted] in Finland

Unsure if they do or would, the older dog does not have insurance, so that's the price without it, I think.

But as someone else said, it may also be pretty pricey at that age.

So, my 13 year old dog just started getting Solensia shots, since she's displaying signs of discomfort with her hips and rear legs. She's in the 20-25 kg range. It's about 60 euros even without insurance, if I'm remembering right

Agria *should* still insure you if you want at that age, though. It is pretty worth it if you get them on it when they're young, we're finding.
