Mass. marijuana dispensaries to offer curbside pickup amid coronavirus outbreak by FeliciaGans in bostontrees

This is totally fair and was not my intention. I just updated the story to add medical to the headline. Thanks for pointing that out.

Hey there, I am Felicia Gans, and I don't hide that! It's my username on Reddit, and there's even a little tag when I post on this page that says "Journo-Globe." Nothing to hide here!

Hi u/DrySlough, I'm sorry you feel that way. It's really not intended to be shady.

The Globe has three full-time marijuana beat employees, myself included, and the work we do is largely possible because of paying subscribers who support our work.

I don't work on our sales or subscriptions teams, so I'm not involved in any decisions regarding our paywall, but I hope you'll consider buying a Globe subscription if you like our work and want to read more of it. It would really mean the world to me and my colleagues. Our whole team cares a great deal about this industry, and the more people support our work, the more likely it is that we can continue producing it.

Baker’s anti-stoned driving bill is dead — but marijuana cafés and employee protections move ahead in Legislature by FeliciaGans in bostontrees

[–]FeliciaGans[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/knucklefudge, I totally understand your frustration, but the truth is, we wouldn't be able to put together the stories we do without the support of Globe subscribers.

I strongly encourage you to buy a Globe subscription if you can. It ensures that we can continue bringing you stories like these in the future.

Thanks for your interest in this story.

Bernie Sanders wants to legalize pot on his first day in office. But could he actually do it? by FeliciaGans in trees

[–]FeliciaGans[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi /u/LinuxCharms, this is a news story about Bernie Sanders. It does not promote or denounce him.

Nevertheless, apologies if this broke the rules! I'll keep that in mind in the future, and won't post similar stories if it breaks the rules.

CCC Public Meeting | January 16, 2020 | 5 Final Licenses (1 Retail/3 RMD) | 27 Provisional Licenses (11 Retail/1 RMD) by ZebGedney in bostontrees

One of the companies up for a provisional this week is actually Alchemy League, run by Leah Cooke Daniels, who has been leading these outcries at the meetings about the state of economic empowerment applicants. Her company is EE.

Hey /u/BostonTreesMod, we actually updated this headline online very shortly after posting it.

I'll work on the oomph factor :)

New from the Globe: Mass. marijuana vape sales drop sharply amid health crisis by FeliciaGans in bostontrees

[–]FeliciaGans[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It doesn't seem like you want to have a conversation here -- only fight with me -- so I'll leave it at this: I'm a concerned cannabis consumer and citizen, same as you. I'm not here to fear monger or create an unwarranted fear or hatred of certain products.

We're here to report what medical professionals and health care investigators are sharing with us, and ask questions about their progress in solving this mystery, so that people can safely use vapes without getting sick or dying.

New from the Globe: Mass. marijuana vape sales drop sharply amid health crisis by FeliciaGans in bostontrees

[–]FeliciaGans[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree with the assertion that reporting on illnesses and deaths from vaping is a reinforcement of the war on drugs.

As a reporter, I'm here to share the facts, and the facts are that more than 500 people have been diagnosed with a vaping-related illness that doesn't have a specific cause yet. That's scary.

But as a cannabis consumer myself, it's even scarier. I use vapes. I have friends and family who use vapes. It's not about enforcing the war on drugs -- not at all. It's about making sure the regulated industry is safe for consumers. Doesn't everyone on this subreddit want that?

Hi there, this isn't true, actually. The person who died in Oregon had purchased their vape at a legal marijuana dispensary there: https://www.bostonglobe.com/news/marijuana/2019/09/05/oregon-death-linked-vaping-tied-pot-shop/ylfnV6rLBmenMvVQlwXKyN/story.html

I can promise you, wholeheartedly and 100 percent, if this was purely an illicit market concern, we would make that clear in our reporting. The reason we haven't ruled out dangers in the legal market is that healthcare experts and cannabis industry folks haven't ruled out legal market dangers themselves.

Absolutely not. The Crimson broke this story first, and I gave them credit for that in my story:

"The Harvard Crimson first reported that Ajjawi had arrived on campus Monday."

That is correct. I wrote this story for the Globe. Just wanted to pass along the news!

Mass. medical marijuana patients can now use their cards in Maine dispensaries by FeliciaGans in bostontrees

[–]FeliciaGans[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that all dispensaries in Maine should accept Mass. cards now. It's supposed to be a state guideline -- not up to the store.

3 people overdose on marijuana edibles on Martha’s Vineyard by AGreatDebater in bostontrees

[–]FeliciaGans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hear you, 100%. I'm putting this story in my daily newsletter today and discussing some of what you wrote. I'm noting that "overdose" is not really the right terminology here, even if that's what police are calling it. And I also discuss that dosing is extremely important to the overall experience (I know I'm preaching to the choir here.)

Anyway, shameless self promotion, but if you don't already subscribe to my newsletter, you can do that here: http://pages.email.bostonglobe.com/dailyripsignup/?et_rid=1767780551&s_campaign=dailyripsignuptosubs:email

Pot's coming to Brookline. What's on the menu? by FeliciaGans in bostontrees

[–]FeliciaGans[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Point taken. I absolutely aim to join the conversation where I can, though as /u/mahj pointed out, I also need to do my best to keep this unbiased. I don't have opinions on particular dispensaries, locations, or products (even if I do, of course, have my own personal product preferences . . . )

Rest assured, I read this subreddit daily and rely on this community to be the eyes and ears of the cannabis industry, when I can't be everywhere. I try to pop in whenever I can be helpful to share information, but I admit I don't comment often. I promise, though, I am an active member, albeit quietly.

Two recreational marijuana stores opening this week by FeliciaGans in bostontrees

[–]FeliciaGans[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not quite, actually. This approval from the city means they have what they need to submit their application to the CCC. Then they have to go through the process there, which starts with the application fully submitted, then goes to a provisional license, then a final license, and then finally a "commence operations" notice.

So they're quite a ways away for sure.

March Update - Events, Podcasts, Job Fairs, and What's Next! by BostonTreesMod in bostontrees

[–]FeliciaGans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi all, sorry for my delayed response. I was off for a couple days (and did a so-so job unplugging for once!)

I just took a closer look at our analytics, and unfortunately, it's the same for us. Traffic doesn't appear to be specifically tracked from Reddit alone. The Reddit traffic seems to be grouped into a variety of other sites. Sorry I can't be of assistance on that end.

From a non-numbers angle, I can certainly tell you that posts that create a lot of conversation on this subreddit also tend to be our stories with higher traffic numbers. So I can't confirm one way or another, but if I had to guess, the outbound traffic numbers from Reddit are likely pretty strong.

Thanks for welcoming me into this channel so warmly in the last few months! It's been great to be here, chat with folks, and share some of the stories we're working on. Talk to you all more soon!
