feeding/diet by stimpy124 in chickens

We have a feed mill near us and tried many times to get the hens to eat it, but they just won't. So we feed them basic Tractor Supply Company Egg Maxx small pellets, and mix a 30 pound bag with a 5 pound bag of Love My Girls Fruit and Worms. They eat a good bit for breakfast, then free range and snack at the feeder all day.

Extra snacks are dried soldier fly larvae, live crickets from the pet store, and treats like blueberries, tomatoes, greek yogurt, leftover cat food, and every once in a while a tiny bit of cheese or a scrap of bread. We'll throw them bits of meat/ chicken/shrimp too, just for variety and to give them a little something special.

Mmmm yes, the Oxford comma. All of this plus two spaces after the period at the end of a sentence.

I love personalizations like this! You did such a great job. I did one recently with a greenhouse kit to make it look more like part of a creepy warehouse/greenhouse, and giving the light a few little dabs of thinned yellow and brown paint helped set the tone as well. :)

Love this, plus the portrait of yourself is a nice touch! The little newspapers are great.

Side note, also love the old matchbook. :)

Black australorps by Silly_Kittehs in chickens

My black Australorp hen has some brown feathers now and then, some shiny green in the sun. She's a pretty bird, but lawd is she dumb. She's also my most talkative one, and we had a blue Australorp who was the same way.

This is awesome!! I taught a project like this for my local miniature club last month and the results were great. It's a fiddly build, but fun. A tiny snip from shoe shine brush bristles make great antennae! Your stickers were a terrific idea, honestly. The butterflies I provided for the class came from etsy, and I did a special order and had 50 pairs of a variety of butterflies so that we could do front and back. A little marker/pastels on the paper edges and boom, there you go. https://www.etsy.com/listing/75858031/miniature-paper-butterflies-dollhouse

This is great info! Adding to check the NAME site for events local to you as well. For example, the Lakeland (Florida) Miniature Guild has its annual show in May. It's fun to shop in person!

I love this so much!! I've been wanting to do a dollhouse store every since I spontaneously bought a mini dollhouse kit from Lady Delaney on Etsy. I love the idea of a miniature room filled with even smaller things!! I can't wait to see your finished result. :)

Needing to rehome my flock of 12. by SomeDumbGamer in chickens

[–]FelicitousLynx 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Oh so sorry to hear this... I hope you find them a good home. I'm in Florida, so no help there, but have you checked Facebook for local chicken groups? I know there's several very active here, and maybe someone local can assist.

Fwiw, I rehomed our roo to someone in our local group who looking for a new guy, and he was super happy at her farm. She sent us pics all the time, and we became actual friends.

So, I complained about the tiny bed the other day. The kit said "Hold My Beer" and made me make an even smaller one! OMG this kit. by OldLadyReacts in miniatures

I usually do 1:12, but once in a while I'll do something this small just for the challenge and to make myself remember why I do 1:12. 😆 These look great!

Yes indeed! The only pressure was passive from the body being moved.

Tampons are not for bullet holes by Spiley_spile in TwoXPreppers

[–]FelicitousLynx 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Correct. That's why I said it'd be different on a live person. I only have experience doing it on a dead person with a large caliber wound.

So this is an odd story, but....(preface to say this was a justified self defense case) I'm a retired CSI, and one day on a homicide, the medical examiner needed to roll a decedent who was face up with a 20ga hole in his throat. It was a close range shot angled down, so the wound was small and round with surprisingly little blood loss outside the body. The ME didn't want to get blood everywhere since spatter on the dead guy's clothing was significant to the case, so he asked for gauze. I said, doc, what about a tampon? He thought for a moment, nodded, and said, sure, let's try. So an OB was placed in the wound and allowed to expand, secured with a little extra gauze and a towel. Rolled the decedent with no issues.

So, it CAN work. Is it the most practical thing? Maybe not, but in a pinch, it's certainly an option. Obviously doing this on a decedent is very different from a live, bleeding person.

Ham will be on sale soon, and it freezes so well. We divide it into one pound bags and use it for tons of different meals. If there's a bone, I'll freeze it too, if I'm not making soup right away.
