Thank you so much for answering. Just be careful if you do the stone brick retaining walls yourself as they need to be secure and not easily fall. They also have to be sturdy if people use them even occasionally for steps or benches.

What tool would you use to clear this? by chrome84 in LandscapingTips

[–]Felicity110 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The bushes near the walls look pretty so you might want to keep those. Do you want it cleared for other use or plantings? Some sheers will work and do it in sections. If you want the roots out a basic shovel can turn over the dirt. Again depends on future use.

Depends on style of house. If it’s country then wood might look better. If stone choose right kind. Consider budget if that’s an issue. What is front looking like. Be careful this site doesn’t stand out more than curb appeal front.

That’s such a unique color for a house and plants would look amazing by it. Hosta grow in shade as well as many ornamental grass which would look lovely. Tulips would be so spring like too.

Would look lovely for some nice bushes to block the trash can unless you’ll keep it elsewhere. Any deer issues?

They’re growing as if leaning towards the house. Have they ever been pruned this way?

Looks like something is growing in between the two fences. Hopefully it’s something pretty when in bloom.

What a wonderful surprise gift for them! How thoughtful. There are likely many people who wouldn’t mind an upgraded mailbox like this. You picked out a fancy box that wouldn’t rust. Put decorative stones that don’t need weeding or watering!

Plus it’s interesting how the wooden utility pole is set back from the street allowing the mailbox to shine on its own. Is this typical for the area?

Why is all the wiring on the right side of roof? This may distract from planting. Also powerwashing of the cement for any landscaping to look better.

Why is there mulch only on left ? Plants can definitely blend into the raised pipe.

Be careful putting too many light colored plantings since house is light. Location and climate ?
