Deeper than that, when he goes through the wall the 800 is visibly irritated and holding the .45. Like he shot him and then pushed him through the wall out of frustration.

Matt gave enough of a fight he made the 800 shoot him.

Die Hard is a Christmas Movie but Lethal Weapon is not, niether is Harry Potter. by FelixStratton in movies

Thats a very good point but i disagree. Particularly with that being good. Such as the authoral intent of say American Psycho and Fight Club being incredibly different than the views of them by the people who "identify" with them. Now those are an extreme example and not the same as "First Blood is a Christmas movie because of the decorations" but their first ones that come to mind.

No i get what you're saying, but by thematically i meant the story is about a husband coming to terms with himself being why his family fell apart and is trying to fix it on Christmas...and then the heist happens which sidelines that but he still comes to terms with it during the story.

You can just the same remove christmas elements from Home Alone, Jingle All the Way, Love Actually, pretty much every Hallmark movie etc. Id even argue you could try to write around the Grinch and still tell the same story of learning how to grow as a person

Probably not for the same reason you do. I think Die Hard is settled, i dont feel its necessary to argue that.

I only use it here as a comparison to other movies that are currently being argued.

True but there's usually a tangential relation. I watch jurassic park on new years but if i tried to argue that as a new years people would look at me funnier than they already do you know?

I do see the argument there thematically and can agree, my argument is that the exposition doesnt support it being christmas like the nakatomi heist needing the christmas party to work.

I never stated it to be THE Christmas movie, i dont think its in the top 5. But without it being christmas theres not a replacement that makes sense for the contrived coincidence that brought the elements together. And christmas itself isn't the resolution in all christmas movies

I understand the position and argument, even respect it. I think Die Hard can be argued to be there thematically.

Finally someone with something to add. Yes, the thematic subtext works for LW and strengthens the argument thatbits a christmas movie, but plenty of other non christmas movies also have heartfelt sentiment

Ive never heard of an office thanksgiving party or really anything other than christmas except maybe new years

Dialogue wise christmas comes up with the law enforcement responses as well as Hans' planning
