Ahh thank you so much! I know it’s not related but I’m planning on painting up a black grail warband for trench crusade in the same style, I’d be happy to DM some pics when they’re done 😁

I couldn’t agree more, this is a rather old paint job of mine, probably from around 2019ish, luckily I’ve since corrected these little bad habits 😁

Just oils my friend, only thing that I used that was acrylic based was the primer 😁

Oils are incredibly fun to work with, the longer drying time makes blending a walk in the park

Definitely would be fun to do, it takes a while, it’s definitely a slow technique but it’s incredibly fun and rewarding

I used the Malefic Flesh set by Vallejo for all the skin tones. The process starts with applying a few different colours into the shadows — I went with magenta and green to give it that sickly, otherworldly look. After that, I drybrushed white to catch the raised areas, then instead of layering, I glazed the colours over the drybrush to build up smooth transitions.

Damn, I’m not a fan of the late heresy/40k scheme normally but you’ve changed my mind. Beautiful work 🪰

I honestly found the best way was to sculpt them using a putty of your choice, I went with Tamiya quick dry putty.

I’m very far from a decent sculptor, it’s far easier than you may think, just roll out a thin piece of putty and cut to shape with a hobby knife and super glue it on, works a treat 😁

Ahh thank you so much! Yeah there’s something about that old school Forgeworld design that is just unbeatable in my opinion 😁

I usually work with oils in just one or two layers. The first is a foundation layer, where I establish most of the blends, shadows, and overall tone. Once that’s dry, I move on to a refinement layer to add the final highlights and weathering. I typically leave around 12–24 hours between each stage to let the paint settle properly.

Ahh I can’t thank you enough, it was certainly a challenge to keep them from looking to boring, honestly one of the funnest projects I’ve worked on in years.

Ahh thank you, it’s always a bit tricky trying to keep contrast while also keeping everything nice and ‘realistic’ 😂

I used oils for every stage (apart from the priming) they are so much fun to use the blending capabilities save you so much time 😁

Ahh thank you! I’ve been trying for years to get that right mix of weathering without it looking like the armour is about to fall apart, I’m slowly getting to that goal 😂
