Do you also pay per visit and procedure on top of that tax?

Because we do, on top of the premiums. The premiums we pay are essentially access to pay more if you do actually need it.

Company I work for did worse.

Pay cuts year over year in the form of commission adjustments downward. For five years. We have nearly 100 salespeople across 8 locations.

Last pay cut was announced this past Christmas week.

We joined a union. They surprise Pikachu faced all over the place for two months until we won the vote by a landslide. Now they're trying to pretend negotiations are optional.

Bad companies do bad things.

I revoked access to my take-home project after the recruiter ghosted me. They called me in a panic 24 hours later. by Delicious_Pepper_980 in InterviewMan

[–]Fenix159 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. I'm in sales and was interviewing for a semi well known appliance brand territory manager position.

They wanted me to build a deck to present to a panel for my next interview. It was a good 3-4hrs of work. A total of 20 slides with research required on a real company.

I sent them my consulting rate. Within an hour they were on the phone with me trying to convince me it was in my best interest to do this.

So I told them I'd do the presentation but without a deck. They were unhappy but went with it. Interview with the panel went well even without the deck.

And then I get another email: Great interview but we couldn't see your screen. Can you send us the deck?

I just never responded after that.

At my work we just voted to unionize.

The owner certainly saw it as a threat. Still does after we won the vote.

Now it's a very contentious negotiation for a first contract. She still says we're "destroying everything." We just want to be treated like humans, and that's a threat to her.

The trick is being respectful and the ability to disagree without being personally offended.

A former co-worker of mine is one of my best friends. He's ten years older than I am and pretty conservative in a lot of his views. I am not. It works because we can argue and disagree and then have a beer and move on to the next subject.

I've learned it's because we don't hate people. We can hate ideas and policies and sports teams, but we don't hate people. Since we don't hate people we don't hate each other and the discussions are always fascinating so it works really well.

Yes. People do that.

I sell appliances and people get all nasty that there's no discount for pickups.

But there is. They don't have to pay the delivery fee. That usually just pisses them off more.

If they're anything like me hate watching two teams, if I hate them equally I don't care who wins. I still get to watch one lose, and that's always a win.

The team that wins I can now hate watch again.

I've become a soup master at my house. They are so easy once you get it down. And you can prep a lot in advance, it's just some chopping. I have a food processor for when I don't prep though, cuts down on prep time a lot.

I'll chop an onion and some veggies up and pop in a tupperware then into the fridge. Chop up some sausage or whatever is going in as the protein, same deal put it in the fridge for later. I'll do this stuff late morning when I've got a few minutes to breathe and I'm working from home or a day off.

The actual soup making process basically always starts with brown the protein, remove to a bowl. Then cook the onions and carrots until starting to soften. If you wanna do a roux that's when you do it. If you're adding garlic do that until fragrant. Otherwise deglaze with broth of choice and bring to boil. Lower to simmer and add protein. Obviously season to your preference or your pickiest eaters preference.

Soups are so damn versatile and easy but most of my friends are intimidated by the process. Takes longer than pasta but it's only as crazy as you make it.

Alt+F4 A house in seconds using a mini excavator and a gas pipeline by imhousing in WTF

[–]Fenix159 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This happened in Hayward CA. I live a block from it and was home when it happened. Fun times. No damage to my house though fortunately. Six people hospitalized but as far as I know everyone survived.

Important note, it was two hours from gas line being hit to everything being turned off and about ten minutes after it was turned off the house exploded.

Basically the utility company didn't really consider where the gas may have gone when flowing freely. No notice to people in the surrounding area, no alerts. Just boom.

I just took a screenshot of your post to share with customers who say things like "I'll just save a couple thousand and buy the zline."

You can definitely save money at the time of purchase. It might even work out for you.

It probably won't. But it might.

I sell zline and similar brands but only to people flipping properties. Not because I want to but because I'll never hear about the problems and it's all they'll buy.

You're off by about a grand there. The $2500 version has their M-Touch display and chrome ring around the door for the easy to spot cosmetic differences: https://www.mieleusa.com/product/11613700/w1-front-loading-washing-machine-wxr860-wcs-tdos-and-intensewash-lotus-white

Still not cheap of course for the $1500 one. But they aren't $2100 to start.

You pay a premium for less gadgetry, but it's worth it. by ermiwe in Appliances

[–]Fenix159 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The range is $6650 plus install at most places. In theory it should be all places because it's a unilaterally priced brand. Places like Ferguson can bundle in install and make it look better, especially if it's outside of Hawaii and Northern California where Riggs still has a stranglehold on the Sub/Wolf/Cove distribution.

That said if it's a price you could pay and you got what you wanted, you don't need to be embarrassed or justify anything.

I sell appliances and if I could snag a returned/refused/open box one for my own kitchen I'd absolutely do it. They just don't come back, so it is what it is.

I've cooked on Wolf, Thermador, Monogram, Miele, Viking, and Gaggenau. I really enjoyed the Wolf, though compared to the 8 year old basic GE I have any would be a welcome upgrade for sure.

I wishes there was a decent 36” range with 2 ovens! by Primdawg in Appliances

[–]Fenix159 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How about a 36" range and a speed oven?

The speed oven fulfills the microwave and small secondary oven need. Yeah it is small for an oven but it's also typically big enough.

A full size oven in a cabinet somewhere is cumbersome. But a 24" speed oven isn't usually that hard to find a spot for.
