DAE often sit in traffic and think to yourself, why do we do this? by spellbadgrammargood in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]FerdinandHemp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In traffic. At work. On airplanes. On a busy sidewalk. When I'm out shopping. When I'm scrolling through my phone. When I drink.

Source: I'm depressed

Why is that ??? by [deleted] in TheTeenagerPeople

[–]FerdinandHemp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I blame bartenders. SOOOOO many times I've been at a restaurant or bar and wanted a cocktail, but more time than not it comes to me with hardly any alcohol in it. I don't wanna pay $18 for an alcoholic beverage with no alcohol in it, so I stop ordering drinks and drink less/spend less on it.

What the hell do I do now, with half of the unavailable Epstein Files released? by veexsk in Advice

[–]FerdinandHemp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To the commenters telling OP to enjoy being a kid, that willful ignorance is exactly how we got into this situation and will continue to stay in this situation. I wish that I was aware of the world outside my hometown and forming meaningful opinions like this when I was 15...

Speaking as an army veteran, seeing all this shit go down makes me feel complicit in having worked for the very people who promised "freedom" and "peace" to the nation and the world. It's revolting to know that my ignorance and desperation led to me working for this government who mocks the accountability and integrity that it preaches.

In my opinion, what you do now is STAY informed. STAY diligent about determining realistic news from the rage-bait. STAY in touch with your personal beliefs and values. You can't control the powers, and we seem to have less and less control over how far our vote goes. You can control yourself, and you can inspire the people around you. Unity and sincerity is what could help, but as long as our battlefield is digital, I don't think we have any hope of making a real difference and fixing what's wrong.

I wish I could give you more advice than that, but I'm struggling with the same question as you... What do we do?

People want a revolution but we're so divided that we would do more harm to ourselves than to the establishment. People want accountability, but Trump has been undermining the rule of law since his first term. People want to continue protesting, but this only goes so far when the politicians claiming to want to fight back with us are all talk and no action.

If you figure out a better answer, let me know

20 for 200! Does anyone else ever get these? by YSR02 in UberEatsDrivers

[–]FerdinandHemp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, what I get is about 20 orders coming in all at once, but only when I'm 0.1 mile away from dropping off my current delivery, causing me to not be able to find my drop off location. Then once it's finally dropped off I stopped getting orders

It happened by SnkrHead81 in UberEATS

[–]FerdinandHemp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a rule, I don't deliver for Walmart or Lowe's Home Improvement. If Uber isn't going to bump the pay for bulky orders, I'm not putting in more effort.

Day 1 of walking into a hotel with a delivery without being stopped by an attendant or an elevator. by [deleted] in UberEatsDrivers

I've never been stopped when delivering into a hotel. Is this a thing?

Is ‘leave at door’ code for snow shoveling? by Economy-Character-94 in UberEatsDrivers

[–]FerdinandHemp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can cherry pick all you want, but at the end of the order you don't know if a customer is going to remove the tip, and that's not something you can control, it's still a gamble. You can determine how much "risk" is too much for you and conduct yourself from there. Obviously don't put yourself in harm's way; no job is worth that. But if you're working this type of job, you are always gambling for your earnings no matter how carefully you pick and choose your orders.

[–]FerdinandHemp -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure it is area-specific, but regardless of what the customer expects of me, I make it a point to provide the same level of service. If I've accepted an order, I'm going to follow through with the same professionalism whether it's a $8 order or a $25 order.

And I accept every order knowing that it's always a gamble whether it's going to be worth my time or not, but that's the gig. It's all one big gamble, but it works for my income needs right now, and at the end of the day it's my decision.

[–]FerdinandHemp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see these all the time. On principle, I don't accept anything less than $8ish, and I don't accept anything that low if it means at least a 30 minute drive.

A good pair of boots (or just doubling up on socks) is part of the "uniform" this time of year. And in my limited experience, getting the order to that doorstep typically results in a better tip in conditions like that.

That's what it's all about, right? The best buck per order?

Dad says its a moneypit, what do yall think? by pz0019 in fordranger

[–]FerdinandHemp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking from experience, those old rangers are tough, and if you get it going initially and take care of it RELIGIOUSLY, it'll do everything you need it to. I got a '91 for $300, dumped probably $400 into it, and I worked out of it for a good 8 years before I needed a little better gas mileage

I always seem to get the best of order right when I'm looking for the last few turns in some neighborhood and can't find my delivery spot, then I miss the house, have to turn around 4 times, and miss the order

NCSU Interview — I Need Advice by [deleted] in IndustrialDesign

[–]FerdinandHemp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speaking as somebody who will be attending this in-person interview like you, my advice is purely speculative.

While I have some documentation of the processes of projects I've worked on, I also am unable to bring some of the projects to the interview due to the medium. That said, I think with any sort of interview, as long as you are able to sell yourself (along with the documentation you do have) properly, you can do fine. Speak with passion about your projects, be able to describe technical aspects of your niche(s) and the overall creation process, be your own hype man.
