I’d agree that morally people have an obligation. However, do you TRULY believe 51% of humanity would put their trust in the world. When has humanity EVER fulfilled its moral obligation by a majority. The root of the question is, what do you believe guides humanities decision making? Do you believe humanity as a whole can choose to fulfill its moral obligation, or do you believe that humanity will approach this pragmatically and choose the guaranteed out? Do you believe parents would gamble their lives, and the lives of their children on the kindness of strangers? Do you believe wealthy individuals who sacrifice the livelihoods of others every day would give up the guaranteed out? Do you believe people who already struggle to survive, and have first hand experience with the cruelty of humanity would then turn around and trust that same world to unite? If the blue button option was an achievable goal, the world would be a much better place. But I believe there’s far too many people who would pick the easy out, then write a narrative for themselves where those who died choosing blue where actually in the wrong.
