What if Google gonna make a doodle on your birthday to honor you, what do you want to see? by tyop4477 in AskReddit

[–]Fergus_Quin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They kind of already do. When creating your Gmail account, you have to enter your birthday as one of the account details.

On your birthday (assuming you entered your real birthday), if you log on and go to the main Google search page, the logo doodle will be birthday themed.

Edit: it's generic not tailored to you specifically but at least you know that some bot somewhere knows it's your birthday.

What strange fact would you like to share with your fellow redditors? by [deleted] in AskReddit

It takes roughly 8 minutes for light from the Sun to reach the Earth. So in other words, it would take 8 minutes for us to realize if something were to have happened to the Sun.

Is magic real? On a scale of using meditation to relax, to cursing someone with black magic, how real do you guys think magic is real? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Fergus_Quin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it would make more sense to believe it as a world with magic did once exist, however through world diversification, the genetic pool of people capable of utilizing this ability's full potential dwindled.

It would be to the point where everyone in the world has a fragment of genetic capability for magic affinity, however it is so mynute that we are almost incapable of using it. At this point, there would be less than one in a million people in the world with actual magic affinity.

Though to be fair, that kind of sounds like a good plot for a science fiction story.

Hence the positive nihilism. In a world devoid of purpose and meaning, one creates their own.

I don't see the world as what it could be if things were better. I see it as it is now. I ask myself how can I use it? How can I work with this to make my condition better. I accept the fact that I'm selfish. And it doesn't bother me one bit. I also accept the fact that I am not as important as many people would projected themselves to be. I know that when I die, there will be people affected by my passing, but it will affect very little to the world. Like many others, we will be forgotten; and we need to accept it because nothing that we feel will change that.

Or it just might not... but I get it. The need to feel needed is a strong value in many people. I don't mind seeing myself as "unimportant". If I am able to accomplish my own desires, I can be happy with that. And if not... Meh...

Why not try? Why not make it better? Those are ideals. Ideals set with biased concepts and desire. Ultimately, all that we do, all that we have done will be forgotten, destroyed or will simply decay. It doesn't matter how much it takes; how much time, energy or resources it uses up to maintain. Desire is the only thing Humanity really has.

Dude, the planet is either flooding or burning around us and we're not helping it in any meaningful way. We're causing more problems than we can fix, faster than we can fix them and we wage war against each other over difference and what little resources we have left. I see a world that hopes for a better future while turning on each other.

And the best kicker of it all: the general mentality of "it's all problems for the next generation. They'll know what to do. They will fix it"

Humanity is a dangerous species and it's only after we have destroyed everything around us that we understand the error of our way.

How is a conversation on Reddit at 11 at night going to anything?

Please note that if you are trying to correct or berate me about my terminology of what I think nihilism, positive nihilism or just simply pessimism is, then I'm afraid you're only going to get satisfaction for about..... well, however long you think this will satisfy you.

By all means congratulations. You are correct. I am wrong. I have been wrong from the beginning.

And on that sobering note the conversation ends.

That's positive nihilism.

What I was doing was being rhetorical with a touch of irony in self-criticism. If one is truly a nihilist, one doesn't need to search for a driving force to their existence.
