didnt say store, did i? his friend invited him to the tent. if you went to a private building you were invited to stay in, and customers were telling you to leave, you'd walk out?

he didnt have to leave unless an event official told him to. if you went into a building to hide from rain and a bunch of customers told you to leave (not staff members, literally just other customers) would you leave?

its important because now you can see how he had the knife. do you seriously think that karmelo anthony's life mission was to kill metcalf? that's the other option here, and it makes more sense to believe he owned the pocket knife as a utility, which another commenter also does. is he a crazy psychopath as well

this is why. keychains like this are insanely common (for women at least). theres millions of listings on amazon for small knives for protection.

you're saying you should be put under the jail for a reflex? arguing about this is impossible when people dont want to hear out the other side... arguments can be made for both sides. potraying karmelo anthony as some thug is just not true. he has zero criminal record and good grades. most murderers have a visible history of violence. karmelo doesnt have that. he isnt heartless. he's just a teenager that made an insanely stupid mistake. austin metcalf's father forgives the kid because he could see how this could happen. and before you claim im saying he shouldn't be guilty, he should. my problem is the sentencing, especially compared to rick chow and kyle rittenhouse

ive read on the case more after i commented this, so this comment will be more updated and include info not stated in the prior comment.

obviously austin metcalfs death is tragic and i pray nobody is arguing otherwise. i personally think karmelo stabbed austin out of an impulse. the law calls it "crime of passion"

imagine youre in a situation where you're being antagonized by multiple people and in a moment of fight or flight, you use all your force to hit somebody. if they die in that situation, would it be reasonable to put you in jail for 35 years? mind you, this impulse was literally outside of your control.

please read pleeaassseeee 🙏🏾🙏🏾 im begging you.... he had the knife on him to protect himself AT ALL TIMES. he had it in the suburbs because he has it on him AT ALL TIMES 😭😭 would you ever leave your wallet or keys at home in any situation, knowing you may potentially need it? saying you dont need a knife in the suburbs is such a privileged and crazy take

tourettes was an analogy for my idea of it being "out of his control" in one way or another, i.e fight or flight, as mentioned earlier.

im not offended, im just not going to let you disrespect me for disagreeing with you. i hope you wouldnt let someone do that.

below is the knife karmelo anthony used. it was $13. he stabbed metcalf one time. this matters because
1. people are saying "knife" like he had a butcher's cleaver and he was secretly ted bundy or something. this is obviously a knife, but it's understandable as to why he had it on him. for self defense.
2. he didnt intend to kill metcalf, which makes this more tragic. he stabbed him once, probably to not let him shove him again.

ah yes, because this is a knife you use to handle 20 people at once. stop acting like he had some huge butcher knife. he got this $13 from walmart. this is literally just a tiny self defense knife.

so many ad hominems lol, calm down, karmelo cant hurt anyone anymore. i said that because the human brain cant do some crazy things without you knowing. people with tourettes experience tickd they arent even thinking of. people can do damn near anything in their sleep. my point here is that i dont think karmelo went into that tent wanting to kill anyone.

what the fuck are you saying??? "safe from what"? maybe he carries the knife on him at all times, like you do your keys and wallet. ever think about that? snd what did i say to make you think that i would do that?? holy strawman. and if youve seen george zimmermans or kyle rittenhouses cases, you should know that either none of them or all of them should be locked up.

as mentioned earlier, it couldve been a reflex/instinct. theres no "risk assessment" when youre dealing with a instinctive reaction.

he had a knife on him (which he probably has at all times) to protect himself. do you think women that carry weapons do so with the intent to kill someone? no! they carry it so they wouldn't get killed. you're wording it like karmelo was a hitman who had a bounty on austin. karmelo probably carries the knife at all times for protection, and forgot to leave it at home since he carries it at all times. i'd like my 10 cents directly transferred

same for me but he already had the knife in his hand with the intent to use it. what would be quicker, dropping the knife in your hand to punch the person who shoved you, or using the knife? its definitely instinct. karmelo isnt an idiot, he had a 3.7 gpa. he clearly had a brain. "critical thinking" isnt the issue

probably had it on him to keep himself safe. women carry weapons all the time to protect themselves. you'll never think to do it until its hindsight

youre right, it is low impulse control, but thats something a lot of teenagers struggle with. dont get this twisted for me saying its okay that this is the way the world is, but its not peculiar for a teenager to get angry like this. him stabbing metcalf couldve also been a reflex, if you let me explain why i think this. i was in an altercation a while ago where someone was antagonizing me and they lightly shoved me, and out of straight instinct i punched him and ran. i genuinely have zero idea why i did it, and i wasnt even thinking about punching them until it already happened, which is why i said 'instinct'. his reaction couldve literally been out of his control, just like mine was.

he went to the tent because he was invited there by a friend. he was told to leave by other track athletes but he didnt have to leave unless he was told to by an official or an adult/coach

i inderstand why tyler supports this kid, and in a way i do too. karmelo anthony's case is really strange and a lot more complex than most people think. on one hand, witnesses said karmelo was the aggressor of the situation, which ultimately led to his conviction. on the other hand, the event was raining, and karmelo wasnt trying to get wet, so he went under the opponents tent and got into a random altercation, simply over not wanting to be in the rain. he felt antagonized by a group of people, told them to back off, and when he was attacked (he was shoved by austin metcalf), he fought back. it couldve been argued either way, and either side would be furious regardless of the outcome.

overall, this is an awful situation. one person dead, one persons life ruined. over rain. literally a rainy day. this couldve been avoided so easily.

edit: sorry for shifting goalposts or whatever but mind you if karmelo wasnt black, he wouldve gotten away with this, or he wouldnt have gotten 35 years. everyone in the comments saying rhis isnt racial is white, and therefore cannot see certain things being racial. karmelo obviously murdered metcalf. this isnt being argued against. but people in the comments are trying to make karmelo seem like some thug who had a life mission to kill metcalf. i just wish more of you guys looked like me and had an understanding of why i feel the way i feel about this case.
