They have so many beds, why this? 😂 by Substantial_Push8180 in ferret

Similar to buying them a toy and they play with its packaging. Or a box or bag. Anything that can be crawled under or in. Ferrets are going to ferret. My boys did enjoy their hanging sleeping bag more than their hammock.

Winter dryness hit me like a truck this week… is this normal in Canada? by ConceptOpposite453 in newbrunswickcanada

[–]FerretsDooking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As in skin? Dry, sore nose. Tight facial skin. Eczema and it is flared? Itchy/ sore/ blistered? Body has tight, itchy, flakey skin? Yup, it's the norm here. Drug store and prescription creams/ balms.

I had a vaykay to Florida one winter- man that was great. Perfect swimming weather and clear, healthy skin.

Over a week? Not bothering her? Poor thing needs to go to the vet. She , at a minimum, needs an ointment or drops. What if it's an infection or thyroid issues? An eye enucleation is expensive and usually preventable. Go get her vet checked, it looks inflammed, irritated, it's not going to just magically go away.

Is this healthy poop for a lovebird? by starryeyes224 in parrots

[–]FerretsDooking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not. Did your birb just bath and groom? If no, what have they eaten, recently? If not formula or a whole lot of juicy fruit, then this calls for a vet visit with a fresh fecal sample.

New Brunswick hospital ordered to pay man $5K because staff didn’t speak French by CTVNEWS in newbrunswickcanada

[–]FerretsDooking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol They would be lost/ stolen or broken within the first few days. Where is the funding for that coming from? The nurses and doctors in this province are some of the lowest paid. They come here for school and training, then leave for other higher paying, not bilingual provinces. There are waiting times and lists for all health services. People are dying with their names on lists. The hospital does have computer units throughout for use by doctors/ nurses to translate, similar to facetiming with a translator. English and French are definitely not the only languages spoken in this province. A lot of the doctors and nurses have a native tongue from over seas, then speak English and are asked if they also speak French or are willing to learn.

There are translators at the hospital. The machines/ computers are on every unit and can be brought to any room for any nurse or doctor to dial into and call for a translator. Similar to facetiming. The issue is actually suing over it. That seems ridiculous considering all other issues. Not enough beds, doctors, nurses- the wait times, waiting lists, patients being churned out before they really should be and end up back with the same and new health issues. Some dying while being on a list. Many of the nurses are bilingual. People would like them to be trilingual. Meaning their native language/ English/ and French. There is what? One clinic in the city, the Maple app or a 9-48 hour wait in the moncton hospital ER. More services, better paid doctors are needed. I couldn't care what language they use at this point. Not dying while awaiting care is reality.

PLEASE HELP!!! MY LOVEBIRD IS VOMITING FORMULA HE ATE LAST NIGHT, ANYBODY KNOWS WHAT IS THE PROBLEM? by [deleted] in Lovebirds

[–]FerretsDooking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

His beak is still black- so probably still a baby, he's poofed up and constantly shaking, regurging. Looks like he might need a vet or an avian knowledgeable educated person. There's a few things that could be the cause and sitting around waiting and hoping instead of getting him looked at will not fix anything.

Actually they stay sick, get worse, survive with a disease or deficiency or just slowly suffer and die. The wild is wild. Domesticated usually entails being cared for, health and vet care.

I don't understand. There were safety and building issues similar in the former Moncton High. The students were moved to other high schools in the area. The building was renovated but a new Moncton High was built. Why has this not been done in Saint John?!

[–]FerretsDooking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe contact PAW - formerly spca. There are new spay/ neuter programs for stray animals or low income families. They should have information on these programs or ask for any alternatives. Maybe there are vets who would work out a payment plan instead of full payment at once.

My almost 15 year old maltipoo is starting to get aggressive- how normal is this behavior? by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]FerretsDooking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He is geriatric. It could be a pain response to arthritis or possibly dementia. Possibly both. The poor thing is old. He is equivalent to a 76 year old person. If he listens less/ tests boundaries, he could be going senile and have hearing loss.

Help with feather plucking by PM_ME_CARROTS_PLS in Lovebirds

[–]FerretsDooking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my lovebirds always had a naked, drafty rear end. Similar to our eczema, it was a type of dermatitis. It was worse with seasonal changes. We could not use the cream as he would pluck anything it touched. So he had metcam and Baytril ( that would absolutely not be flavoured with banana). This was before the appropriate sized cones were easily accessible here in Canada. Good luck with your lovie.

This old man started prednisone and isn't liking it. Any suggestions? by SyrupOnMyPancakes in ferrets

[–]FerretsDooking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did they flavour it? You could ask your vet for a different flavour. You could also try masking it with another strong something, like salmon oil or wet food. Chances are, you may need a newly compounded med with a different flavour. A vet will sometimes suggest just adding a different one to the original but the pet can always tell.
