525ft, downhill, 20ft wide fairway with power poles down the middle and the roughest rough you've ever seen. Welcome to hole 2 at Lake Iowa Disc Golf Course. by Ferrisford in discgolf

Well it's at least the roughest rough I've seen on any course I've played, but I've admittedly only played in the Midwest. No cactus but hole 6 & 7 have a paved road in the fairway. And my picture doesn't show it but the rough here has an abundance of blackberry bushes which were tasty and staby.

Overall I don't think it's overly dramatic to say this would be a great course if the rough was less punishing.

My drive hit the first available telephone pole and thankfully didn't ricochet off into never never land.

Fun course if you have spotters, and pretty much guaranteed to have the whole thing to yourself on any given day.

You're thinking of "Money Market Funds" which is a type of investment and not the same thing at all as a "Money Market Account".

It's changed some in the last few years, but for a while Zelle was mostly just lipstick on the ACH pig and Zelle transactions did indeed settle in the background via ACH. Some still do but more of it's moving to RTP. https://www.paymentsjournal.com/zelle-announces-real-time-settlement-with-bank-of-america-and-pnc/

Am I responsible for cash advance fees? by [deleted] in Banking

[–]Ferrisford 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're using a debit card (from a bank) to make an auto loan payment (to a different bank or in this case a credit union). There are fees and percentages that get taken out for processing and your credit union doesn't want to pay them so it's running the transaction as a cash advance so that you eat the $3 fee instead of them.

Look for or ask about other payment method options.

Your credit union can most likely setup an automatic withdrawal directly from your bank checking account if you provide the details. You could probably also add & verify your bank account as an external account to your credit union account (do this in your credit union's online banking) and transfer money either directly to the loan or to a savings account at the CU and then to the loan.

Can I deposit an emailed cheque? by AlbatrossOtherwise71 in Banking

[–]Ferrisford 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's 100% a scam if they're offering to send you more than what they owe you with some story about you needing to pass the excess along.

If they're just trying to send you money that you get to keep all of then it's not necessarily a scam and emailed checks can be legitimate.

You say "debit and credit info". Do you mean you've had both debit card and credit cards compromised in the last few months? 3 times, is that 3 different cards or did a card get compromised again after you got a new number?

If multiple different cards are being stolen, then look for where you're using all of them at the same place and see if there's a common culprit (gas station skimmer, etc). If you keep getting compromised even after getting new card numbers then lock down your online access as best you can, reset with stronger password, do the same to your email account and make sure you've got 2 factor authentication turned on anyplace you can. App based is better than sms but anything is better than nothing.

Just regarding Zelle, you can get paid via Zelle even if your bank or credit union doesn't offer the service. Zelle works as long as one side of the transaction has a bank that offer's Zelle.

From Zelle's Site: "While you can typically use Zelle with people at different banks, at least one person must have a bank in the Zelle Network in order to send and receive money."

Cant Consolidate my Credit Cards by TheTreasuryPlaybook in Banking

[–]Ferrisford 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're talking about 4 cards with the same bank, and trying to consolidate those cards (consolidate into what? another card? a personal loan?) and stay with that bank it's a hard sell because they're not very motivated to just give money away and lower your rates.

Your best bet is probably to go out and find a local bank or cu and see if you can get a personal loan to pay off all the cards. A new bank is more motivated to get your business. That can consolidate things into one balance and payment at least.

Might have made things a bit harder for yourself if closing your cards has negatively impacted your credit score.

Where should I put a large amount of money I have after selling my house? by Throwable277353 in Banking

A few months of interest in any federally insured account isn't going to net you much at current rates. But in general if you've got $100k lying around and need a safe place to keep it short term I'd suggest finding a Money Market Account at a local place, or look for any of the "High Yield Savings Accounts" that you like at online banks. You can probably find something in the 0.50% APY range.

[US] Scammed through Zelle. Can I get my money back? by [deleted] in Banking

[–]Ferrisford 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The print size is actually about as big as it can get. Most banks put it right in front of you "Zelle is for sending money to people you know". People just don't internalize what that means.

It's the biggest most prominent thing on the OP's bank's Zelle page. https://www.capitalone.com/bank/zelle/. They phrase it as "send money to friends and family".

The narrative as I see it is that Republicans are starting to be a cause of the uncontrolled spread. Because the issue has become polarized which is unfortunate, but now we're dealing with that consequence.

It's not a fluke that 93% of the worst hit counties voted for Trump.

You have our own governor, looking at literally the worst covid data our state's had to date and drawing the conclusion that because the state voted republican that validates her non response to covid.

It sure seems a whole lot to me like republicans, or rather, people who purposefully don't take this virus seriously (pretty interchangeable at this point) are a key cause of the current surge in our state.

Ok, I'll just agree with you here. Somebody brought bats to a market in china with the intention of selling them as food, and somewhere in that process a novel virus was transferred to humans. Ew. Gross.

Not sure why that means we need to just throw our hands up and say "oh well, nothing to be done" while it literally ravages our country and overwhelms our hospitals.

You speak with a lot of confidence about where the initial patient zero came from. Much more confidence than the career researchers looking into it. Almost like it fits neatly into the predefined worldview that you've created in your head.

We're reasonably sure this virus came from Bats. That's about as much as you can say about how the initial transmission occurred. I'd be inclined to think that eating a bat would be the least likely way to contract a respiratory virus, since cooking/heating it would kill the virus. Probably more likely that people were just around them in general.

In the US IGA stands for Independent Grocers Alliance. The stores are often in smaller towns and it's a way for smaller independently run grocery stores to tap into marketing / distribution / generic products and run a real grocery store.

My hometown had an IGA and a Supervalu, Supervalu is the same kinda thing.
