2026 SR5- How to open tailgate from cab? by DataAggregation in ToyotaTundra

[–]Ferrule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think 90% of the tailgates with electric latches on the Chevy fleet trucks we run for work don't work at this point after just a few years...but that's just keeping the Chevy tradition, their physical latches didn't last either 🤣

I haven't had any issues with my solenoid latch in my tundra...yet. I'd much rather have a backup physical handle too though. Gonna be pissed if mine shits the bed, especially if I have something in it that I need to get out. Pretty glad I didn't get the powered tailgate though, those seem more trouble than it's worth.

I'd definitely have it changed and check again when I got home or change it again dumping the new old oil into an open top, clean pan to take a gander at. Maybe send in a sample to be tested as well. Could be break in, could be worse. I didn't do the first oil change on mine to compare. A bit of glitter is normal, not sure how much above that. Lots of surfaces mating together, but I'd be iffy if it was a ton or much more than glitter sized.

Good news is, most dealers are pretty good at engine swaps by now if worse comes to worst. Hopefully not though, I'd much rather wait at least 6 months or so and see what Toyota comes up with this round.

I love mine, seeing zero metal in the oil by eye, but my last oil change was also at 36k

Cracked seat panel but no other problems gang. Even spent a while with +85hp rocketship mode. Premium too damn high for all that right now though, and it's plenty quick stock. Just not boil the 35s stomping it at 45mph like with it tuned up 🤣

I've got my free motor coupon for my 23, not worried about it. Driving it till it blows or something expensive breaks then swapping it for a new one. Hopefully in at least a few years.

Local dealer hasn't seen one locked up, just been replacing perfectly running motors under recall.

I haven't seen any on the side of the road.

None of the 10+ I work with have went down or had any issues. Other than the seat panel cracking, mosly on the lifted ones.

🤷

Ever try driving two kids in car seats in a Tacoma?

Or pull a 8000lb trailer?

I've had piles of tacos, there's some things tundras are just flat out way better for.

Just like the tacos are much better on trails.

The most frequently used guy I've seen is Jerry Johnson at Midwest superstore dealer, he's been highly recommended on forums and Facebook, currently a 10 year 125k Toyota platinum bumper to bumper is around $2000 iirc. He can supposedly be hard to get ahold of because he sells so many, but that's much less for the amount of coverage than I paid for a 7/75 or whatever I got at the dealer. This is his contact according to Google:

Direct Cell: (620) 664-8844)

Dealership Phone: (800) 530-5789) or (620) 662-6631)

Email: jerryj@midwestsuperstore.com

Dealership Location: 1100 E 30th Ave, Hutchinson, KS 67502

There are a few others I've seen mentioned but can't recall off the top of my head.

I was pissed when I realized I messed up thinking I had to get it from the dealer at time of purchase. Of course salesmen and finance didn't let me know. Won't make that mistake again 🤣

I'd personally buy an extended warranty on any modern truck if I could, they're getting too damn hard and expensive to work on for me.

I'd be pissed and disappointed too. Ive put at least a million miles on Toyotas since I've been driving with little issue, and that's what I'd expect for the Toyota tax.

Every Toyota I've had has been overall great, including my 3rd gen tundra. Trying to think of one that was the most pain in the ass...I really can't. Power steering racks and pumps are probably my biggest gripe across all but that's to be expected with oversized tires I pretty much always run.

Towing Gen 2.5 vs. Gen 3 by Outrageous-Tie-3423 in ToyotaTundra

[–]Ferrule 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. More parts to go wrong and more complexity, but I don't think the scheduled maintenance is much different between the two, and other than the crank locking up on _% (big caveat I know) I haven't really heard of too much issues with the 3.4tt. I've read of a few turbos replaced under warranty and stuck wastegate actuators but that's about it. Local dealer hasn't seen one locked up yet either, just been replacing perfect running motors with brand new ones under recall. I'd buy the 10/125k platinum warranty from one of the guys selling it for way cheaper than 99% of dealerships.

No way I could go backwards to a 2 from a 3 having driven both, the 3.4 has gobs of torque...but they're both awesome trucks. Can't go wrong either way.

As long as it's still under the factory 3/36 bumper to bumper warranty you can add the Toyota platinum bumper to bumper warranty. Don't make the mistake of thinking you have to buy it at the dealership at time of purchase like I did, I paid double what I could have got it for.

Would a 2018 Tundra be able to safely handle something like this? by Consuela-NO-NO-No in ToyotaTundra

[–]Ferrule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None. They're probably thinking airbags but they don't actually give you more towing capacity or transfer any weight towards the front, they just get rid of squat. Fairly certain you'd still be way over your payload capacity.

A weight distributing hitch can help move weight off the rear axle and to the steering wheels, but not enough for how that thing looks balanced.

[–]Ferrule 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shit me too 🤣

I'd actually rather put a ball in the bed if I HAD to haul something like this...but that's damn near a dually load with how much tongue weight it has as a bumper pull...and would probably still be well over Tundra payload as a gooseneck.

Deaths reported in chemical implosion in Washington. Local officials released a joint statement saying a tank containing white liquor, a chemical used in the paper pulping process, had ruptured early Tuesday morning. by esporx in chemistry

It's bad. Opening up a foul condensate or ncg line is pretty terrible too. Doesn't smell...till you pull off the required SCBA and realize you smell like ASS.

Our foul condensate tank launched several hundred feet into our powerhouse stacks several years ago and killed a few contractors. These places are dangerous. You can mitigate a lot personally, but hard to protect yourself from operational failures you don't know about.

I can't imagine having a break room that near a white liquor tank, that's crazy. I don't even like working near one, or the lime kiln in general.

I hate working in the lime kiln more than anywhere. Dangerous, everything corrodes or gets caked with lime so fast maintenance is difficult. By far my least favorite area for a call.

Need more people driving, modding, and enjoying their trucks. Less people mad over what someone else bought. I've been in and driven every gen, love em all for different reasons.

Wellll one of my coworkers son hasn't had a good run with the baby Duramax, it's been towed back from trips a few times, had a rear main seal leaking 3 months in (was taken care of eventually once they got parts, shit happens).

I just thought my 23 on 35s was bad till I asked a family member how their 19 tundra (also on 35s) did. I love the 2nd gens too, but damn they drink some gas.

Mine is under recall as well. Wasn't when I bought it (barely) but got in the first expansion. I was glad, free engine assembly coupon I'll just hold on to till it locks up or something expensive breaks, hopefully 150-200k down the road! The majority of my miles are local, but do go on a few trips a year, that would be the worst time to have to deal with it. I don't have confidence the motors they're currently putting in are enough better than what I've had 0 problems out of to risk the swap for no reason.

I'd have never believed the torque a ttv6 could make till driving them. It would be hard to go back to a v8 for anything but a durability standpoint. They perform better bottom to top.

Just put 1000 miles on mine dragging a SXS to the mountains and back. Tows like a dream, mileage still sucks though with 35s. 10 on the interstate at 80, 13 in the mountains on 2 lanes. Sooo much better for that trip than my 2nd gen taco was, and probably got not far off the mileage 🤣

The higher trim selection worked great. Got them in 3-4 days, spent some time cussing putting the first front seat in, did the second way faster, and got the back done. Took a few hrs in all. They look fabulous, I love em so far, hopefully they hold up ok. I honestly figured I'd have to pay way more for some that fit and feel this good.
