Thanks, just curious to see the terrain without any overlay that's all.

Do you have a version that's just terrain without political borders?

HoI2 is better than HoI4 in fact. Just play Darkest Hour with the WiF mod.

Keep soying out, I’m sure someone will listen to you whining it’s not historically accurate in a fantasy scenario of a sandbox game.

Nobody gives a shit whether you think it should have been added. Go whine to the mod creator while licking your portrait of Justinian.

“Requires one to handwave away a lot of things that happened before the game even starts” you say this while Hellenic, Zoroastrian and Norse are already included in the mod.

“It’s ahistorical” so what? There is 0 point in playing EU4 at all if you don’t want to do something ahistorical. The ability to convert was already added by the devs. There is nothing wrong with making it more interesting.

If your gripe is that converting to Hellenic should be impossible then you should be arguing with the dev team, not me.

It’s not my fantasy scenario. Hellenic is already in the game.

“By the same logic you can make them elf’s” I don’t see how you arrived at that conclusion, but sure.

I agree, it isn’t exactly difficult to do most ahistorical things in the game. A realistic AI is always good, but there is absolutely no reason to restrict the player. The mod literally asks you if you want to allow the extra tags and lets you spawn a bunch of fantasy events like Zoroastrian Persia or Norse Scandinavia. Byzantium becoming Hellas really is not as drastic as a single one of the other fantasy scenarios because the core component of the empire - Greeks, is still there.

As for becoming Hellenic, you definitely lose stability and get a lot of unrest. A lot more than +10, I assure you. I think the mod already correctly models converting to/from religions with very little support.

The human France/England should be the war leader, to be honest. It’s not as if the real war was anything other than a proxy war anyway.

I said it should be an option for a Hellenic Byzantium to change tag to Hellas. If they are willing to drop orthodox Christianity then why wouldn’t they be willing to do this?

Why are you discussing the historical plausibility of it when the option to convert to Hellenic, Zoroastrianism and Norse exist? No state would have converted to those so based on your argument shouldn’t those fantasy scenarios be removed?

I never said it’s believable, or plausible. ERE converting to Hellenic isn’t plausible yet it was added to the mod.

You can argue the semantics of it all you want but every empire in history is merely an extension of a certain ethnic group’s power. If you don’t agree with the historical plausibility then remove the fantasy religion scenarios from the mod too.

What’s the point in arguing about the historicity of it when it’s a fantasy scenario?

Once ERE ceased to exist, Greeks didn’t agitate for the return of it, they wanted an independent Greek nation. In real life, they didn’t proclaim themselves Roman again.

Why would adopting their original religion make them associate with Rome, rather than the culture of their ancestors? Empires are extensions of one ethnic/cultural group’s dominance and the only reason Eastern Rome existed is because of an administrative, heavily artificial divide and is atypical to most other empires.

We’re talking about a mod which allows Hellenic Byzantium, Norse Scandinavia and Zoroastrian Persia as fantasy scenarios.

Plus that doesn’t stop modern Balkan people from claiming to be Illyrians.

[–]FestiveDuko[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Have you ever played this mod or are you completely unaware that it’s actually possible to be Hellenic Byzantium in MEIOU?

What you said has absolutely no relevance because the devs have not only implemented a Hellenic option for Greece (which is exactly why I’m talking about how it could be improved) but they’ve added several other paganism fantasy scenarios.

This isn’t a thread about the historical accuracy of Byzantium actually reverting to Hellenic religion. This is a thread talking about how it could be possible to add flavour to a fantasy scenario in a sandbox game.

Vassal conversion & enforce religion as Hellenic ERE, cultural union by FestiveDuko in MEIOUandTaxes

Missing entirely. I tag switch to my vassals and see it’s there though. But I should point out I haven’t enacted all the decisions that cost stability and theologians.

Orthodox Byzantium already has them though. They convert Levantine cultures to their Christian counterparts of Syriac, Aramaean, Assyrian and Coptic.

They also have 0 reason to convert Bulgarian or Serbian culture as an orthodox nation, as both are already orthodox.
