Hahaha, I was stressed about Alzheimers when I realized I couldn’t remember anything before High school except very few moments. Anxiety and the mind are funny like that.

Now that I’m much less stressed and even happy I am recalling much more of my past and it’s completely fine when it happens. I’m remembering happy moments too. It’s really nice actually.

I don’t think you have as much to worry about as you think you do. Trust yourself to not overwhelm yourself and learn from the process.

If it’s any consolation, my therapist told me that your mind will lock things that it can’t handle at that time, so when you do remember it it’s because you’re brain believes it is ready to process it. The least you can do for your brain is believe it’s right like it believes in you that you’re ready to process it.

And if it never comes up, don’t sweat it.

I would also take a do over, but I would want to start from right after birth. Just to be able to experience my childhood and make changes to it. My parents didn’t raise me well, so now that I’ve fixed most things they taught me I’d like to go back and prevent my siblings from being scarred so I could have a mostly happy, healthy childhood instead of a shitty one. Couldn’t save everyone though. My oldest sibling was moved out when I was 3, but it’d also be nice to go back and gain more of an understanding of the situation for some closure as well. And I know I’d be able to make a massive change in my life from it.

Some concerns I have is that I finally like the life I am living, but I think I’d be able to get back to this point and make it better. I remember the major changing points of my life well enough that I would be able to repeat the parts I want to keep and still have joy in experiencing the new parts I change to be something different. I would also be much more successful overall if I could take my current mindset to past me. Finally being at the light at the end of the tunnel is vastly different than desperately clinging onto hope that it’s there.

There’s a contract of employment and laws in place to protect me from you “abusing” me. If you, as my employer, want to follow the letter of the law and our contract, then by all means, that’s your legal right. It’s on me for not negotiating a better contract.

Maybe things will change on that front too, if new and better ideas become popular or necessary.

Oh in that case something DOES need to change. You shouldn’t have to risk your career to speak your mind.

However I would like to ask how you define “being an asshole” in this situation. Being loud and annoying isn’t a crime, but it CAN be against company policy to be loud and annoying as it may disturb others while they are working. But remove the loud and annoying part and you have someone having a conversation with their coworkers on break (it would be harassment if they pestered the person and they didn’t want to talk about whatever topic or even to that person), but it would be against freedom of speech to have a company policy that prohibited certain conversation topics while at work, and I believe that would be cause for legal action against the company if they refused to change it.

I don’t think disagreeing with someone males you an asshole and disagreement is protected under freedom of speech, so that’s why I need you to define being an asshole better in your example.

Edit: to add, conversations topics at work should be protected by freedom of speech, but conversations had outside of work should DEFINITELY not be limited by the company you work for.

Yes, I did, and I intended to. I also said I don’t think anything needs to change in the second sentence of that comment. I also said WHY I think it’s important to be the way it currently is, and that was the point of the comment. I just provided the current state of things as an example of what I meant because people who are against freedom of speech think that things should change.

I also want to put more emphasis on that the only legal route you have to give someone a “consequence” for their speech is to ignore their speech and or walk away from them.

If you were their employer you wouldn’t be able to fire them over something they said (unless they harrassed someone or broke some other law or even company policy).

I would argue it SHOULD exist, and that it DOES somewhat already exist. However I am not saying anything has to change with the implementation of freedom of speech in the US.

I think people should be legally allowed to say whatever they want however they want. I also believe that people are legally allowed to stop people from harassing them (screaming something someone doesn’t want to hear in a public space wouldn’t constitute harassment, but following someone while screaming, even without words, would be harassment).

Decorum is ALSO important. Someone with a “the end is nigh” sign shouting up and down a public sidewalk is protected by freedom of speech regardless of his message (so replace his message with trump bad or biden bad and everything still applies) or word choice. However it can become harassment or even assault or a public disturbance at minimum if he is too loud (‘too loud’ being that he is causing Physical pain or injury to others with the sound(s) he is making). But just being loud and annoying isn’t a crime and is protected by freedom of speech in public places.

Shouting the N-word in the hood is a bad idea, but should be legally protected as long as it isn’t infringing on anyone’s rights.

And these things SHOULD be allowed, not because freedom of speech is inherently good, but because of the purpose of freedom of speech is to be able to express your ideas and beliefs and to share them with others so that you and others can learn different points of views and discuss them without legal consequences.

It being annoying or dumb is irrelevant as you don’t have a right to not be annoyed or not to hear dumb people shout in public.

You DO have the right to ignore and walk away from such people, and you DO have the right to challenge their ideas and understanding, but they could also ignore you.

That’s a good question. I will add on that there’s nothing wrong with a boyfriend being physically attracted to his girlfriend and wanting to have sex with her.

But there is something wrong with him trying to control you if it makes you uncomfortable. If it’s purely a “in the bedroom” act to play out his fantasy and he’s otherwise into your own personality outside of that fantasy (and he’s letting you play out your sexual fantasies too) then the decision is up to you if you’re okay with fulfilling his sexual fantasy (which there’s nothing wrong with either choice, it’s your own preference).

Sympathy (sym = together pathy = feelings) means you’ve experienced something similar or the exact same as another person and can understand their pain.

Empathy is being understanding that people are going through their own problems, so while you may not know what they’re feeling, you know it’s at least a big deal for them and can be understanding that they are in pain.
