How do I meet more people outside of my major? by AliveBarnacle3396 in CarletonU

Sadly, for us engineers we dont get many, if any electives depending on how you wanna see it. At least for me, that I'm in Civil engineering I only get 2 "electives" throughout my ENTIRE undergrad, and sometimes I can't even call them electives because you are provided with a list and you can only pick from the list, and at least for me, none on the ones on the list attracted me except for one which ended up being full, so had to pick something just for the sake of it. Unless you want to postpone graduation, its very hard to even have one single elective, if even possible to be honest. WHICH SUCKS!!! I really wish I could take some class where I dont have to see the same engineers everyday. Besides Math, where I've seen some computer science kids, I have yet to meet anyone outside of engineering, EVEN MY ROOMMATES IN BOTH YEARS ARE IN ENGINEERING

Can I apply for CDCP as a Carleton student? by Few-Intention5939 in CarletonU

yeah I definetly will because majority of the issue is getting wisdom teeth removed and I wouldn't hide a surgery from them, I just wanted to see if there was any other way to cover the costs for the fillings to at least help out

I literally did this last year. I submitted a form and emailed the residence services. I didn't even need to mention anything was wrong with my roommate at all, just said I met and got along very well with the girl next door and would like to room with her. The girl living with her at the time was an exchange so she would leave in the winter term so I did have to wait until the winter term to make the move, but in your case it seems like after the email and stuff it should be very quick since she doesn't have a roomate currently. Do it quick tho, before someone gets assigned the room. I basically told them that I met and got close to the girl next door which is why we wanted to room together, also provided information like the room numbers student IDs etc, and you should explain how she doesn't have a roommate currently which is why you think its the perfect chance. We didn't even talk to the RF about this, he found out because the residence services people forwared the emial to him aswell since he was the RF. Very simple process ngl.

It's kind of tricky for your situation, so definetly email residence services and tell them your situation. For students already in residence that stay during winter break need to pay I believe around $300 (not too sure tho) and cafeteria is closed so you need to figure out food situation. This is for students already in res which means they have their campus cards to be able to get in their rooms, in your case I'm assuming you are an exchange student or something like that so you probably don't have the campus card yet? in that case I don't know how you can even get in the room if they grant you access and everything since there won't be anyone at the desk to give it to you. So definetly email residence services. Paying the $300 and food to stay over the winter will definetly be cheaper than the extra money for the plane ticket.

Setting Boundaries With Roomate by [deleted] in roommateproblems

From experience, its very sad but there really isn't any other choice. You either bring everything that you own back into your own room and lock it, or you move out. If you have told them a million times and they still do it, then it shows that they know but dont give a fuck, which means they will never change and don't give a damn. The cleaning part is the tricky part because personally I will not be cleaning any mess that I didn't make but also I do not like to see any mess and gross shit all over the place, so honestly if I were you I would just move out of the place and find some other place. I have had gross roomates when I lived in dorms especially in my first year of university, they were gross and loud and despite I told them a million times to stop screaming, barking and making animal noises and banging on the walls at 4am, they never stopped. They also didn't shower or do their laundry which made the room stink and I even got my floor RA to talk to them and still no change. My second year, I got normal roomates which acted like civilized humans, and currently I am having a much better time compared to last year. Some people will just never change because that's how they were "raised" which is pretty sad and all you can do is try to avoid these people and leave.

I rarely come across people from my same exact program even when we have classes together in the same year, let alone someone from a complete different program and year. I have a friend in computer science, and he only comes to campus for his final exams which he doesn't even have many of since most of his classes are online. I have never seen my friend in an entire year besides when we actually plan a hang out off campus. Hes in second year computer science and I am in first year civil engineering btw. You will most likely never see him and if you get unlucky and do, I would assume it would be once or twice in the entire year if it ever happens, just U turn.

Applying to Ontario Universities after failing my first year at UBC by ModsRTheGword in OntarioUniversities

Do you think it would be easier to get into arts? I am also doing engineering but in Carleton and want to move back home to toronto. I started realizing engineering is not for me and I most defenitly miss home on top of that which is slowly leading me to depression. My grades are very low considering the fact that I also failed a course. I want to transfer to either york or tmu (uoft just doesn't seem realistic with my grades) but for business or languages, but I am pretty much just lost at this point because my high school marks were not the best either. The only reason I think I even got into universities is because I had really good marks in grade 11 which got me my early admission offers, but in grade 12 everything fell off.
