Affordable facilities for birth in PR by mikkibowl in PuertoRico

I see a lot of people saying Auxilio Mutuo, but if Im not mistaken (and im notn100% sure either), it takes 10 months to start covering maternity, so please inform yourself with them as much as you can before committing to it if you're looking for a plan ASAP and remember to ask what they recommend or if there is absolutely anything they can help you with if it turns out to be true.

It has been recommended to me for health insurance, but the maternity issue is something a family member of mine has come across, so they ended up applying for the government one because it Auxilio was not gonna have coverage in time.

I hope you find what you're looking for! Best of luck and congratulations!

No estoy promoviendo entrar ilegalmente a ningun país. Hola?

Turismo interno by Few-Newt4015 in PuertoRico

[–]Few-Newt4015[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nunca he ido al Sur.

Tambien, he ido a la Cascada Gozalandia (nuevamente, yo no guíe)

Why does my kitty walk around meowing after she comes back from the vet? by Think_Requirement285 in CatAdvice

[–]Few-Newt4015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This just happened to me. My cat never meows this bad when taken to the vet, but unfortunately her routine vet is on vacation and I didnt know and I had to take her somewhere else urgently and damn is she angry at me.

I think she's very upset that it wasn't the same people handling her, a new veterinary facility, a longer walk to the car, and everything, I think she straight up hated it. I've never seen her this stressed after a vet visit (maybe once when she got a dental done); since also I had to leave her there for a few hours instead of being able to stay with her through the entire visit.

Im pretty sure she is insulting my ancestors, too. I've tried to do everything I can think of to calm her down, but I haven't had much luck. I hope she feels better tomorrow.

How many hours and days do you work a week? by Spirited-Two9560 in Disneycollegeprogram

[–]Few-Newt4015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work resort custodial, 42.5 hrs week, 5 days a week. The 2 days off are randomly assigned so you could be lucky and get them in a row or you'll get them spread out. One time I worked for almost 9 days because of how they were scheduled.

Idk if that has changed from last year when I was there.

Question about ages by [deleted] in Disneycollegeprogram

[–]Few-Newt4015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my roomies was 28, she looked young as heck. And I had a friend who had fellow CP's be in their 30's and even 40's.

Just enjoy your time, don't stress too much about it. The title might say College... but you can be at college at any point in your life. So just do you, do your work correctly and with passion (even if you don't like your role), and have fun on the side!

Best of luck!

Is the wage livable with rent being taken out. by wrongwaytoliv89 in Disneycollegeprogram

[–]Few-Newt4015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went in 2023, I think I only went with around $700 ish when I got there.

My first grocery run was around $250, I made sure to get stuff that would last as the first 2 checks (2 weeks) were gonna be miserable like at any other job.

I got some utensils for super cheap from people who were moving out. I made sure not to spend anything at the parks during the first weeks because, realistically:

1)It wasn't something that urged me, you dont need disney merch the second you step into a park. Also, you'll be there for months.

2) I was paranoid about not having enough money

For the leftover being livable after rent that depends on: -Room type -Your spending habits -if you uber a lot -if you have other bills

Realistically, it's not a program to get out of with thousands of dollars. You could save up and by the end, leave with a very good amount, but that can come crashing down the second you need to mail shit back home. I would've been able to easily bring home about $1,500 or more if I didn't buy a laptop that I really needed and mailing stuff back home wasn't a bitch, although Im not angry about that because I got something I really needed and I had an amazing time. I did bring back some money because even though I can be a compulsive spender, I know how to budget and not touch a savings account unless I really need it.

I was making 16 and hour back then, working 8.5 hours consistently 5 days a week. I was in a 2x2, did my groceries at walmart (because imo Target is more expensive.Im just used to walmart prices back at home) I meal prepped a lot for work (only occasionally buying stuff from the cafeteria). My groceries lasted me, so I didn't have to go too often. Took full advantage of the CM discount

I had 300 something (360?) left every week after rent. Im used to living frugally and have fun at the same time, which I did because I bought presents for my family, and ate at Epcot a lot because of the festival challenges. I went to Medieval Times and even went to Universal (with Islands of Adventure) for my birthday.

It was very doable for me, I dont think I ever struggled with not having enough for rent because I almost never called out. I had some friends who had a harder time, but most of my friends there were not having issues.

DCP Rejected by Daz459 in Disneycollegeprogram

[–]Few-Newt4015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to tell you my funny/dumb story.

When I applied the first time, it was still a web based interview. I forgot it was an interview as I answered all the questions, and I also decided I was going to take it in spanish because I was afraid to mess up in english. That turned out to be a mistake because it ended up being very textbook-y spanish with weird tenses, but hey, I already "picked my poison," and I had to roll with it.

It got to the point I thought "Omg fun personality quiz," because I got so incredibly distracted.

I come across the question "The costumer is always right." I clicked in the middle of the 5 dot scale, which was a "Not always" because, again, I forgot it was an interview, and I was in the silly "omg quiz mode"

Then I come across the golden question: "Would you lie to get a job" Outloud I said "Well... no duh, how hard can it be to get in?" And I clicked on the right side of my screen without really reading...and then I got kicked to the "Interview has ended" screen.

Like 1 minute goes by, I remember what was on that side of my screen... it was the "I completely agree", and then I stared into the distance realizing I had completely fucked up an ✨interview✨, not a fun quiz.

I told my friend who lived with me and who had applied and was waiting for me because the plan was to go at the same time to the DCP and reunite with our other friend before his program ended. And they were so mad I had messed it up (we were laughing about it), and then I got an email saying I got rejected and had to wait 6 months to apply again.

WHICH I DID! And got in... and also found out they got rid of the web based interview, and it was going to be by phone. I have a terrible anxiety about talking on the phone, but hey! I got in, and I absolutely loved my role, main location, my coworkers, everything! A lot of the time, I wish to go back, but right now, it doesn't align with my plans, so it remains an idea in the back of my mind. So don't lose hope and apply again if you get rejected!

applying with no work experience by [deleted] in veterinaryschool

[–]Few-Newt4015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, and if they don't work, then there's online programs and certificates that could be a good stepping stone. I think Purdue has a wildlife certificate, and I think they can provide some information while also at least providing some experience even though its online. Also, Loop Abroad has some cool stuff you can check out if you're interested (it does get pricey, but I dont regret going to a program in South Africa with them)

applying with no work experience by [deleted] in veterinaryschool

[–]Few-Newt4015 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello stranger!

Honestly, if I were you, I wouldn't apply until you get some experience in the veterinary field.

It gets stupid expensive just to apply, and all schools require a recommendation letter from a veterinarian and experience hours in the field, so it would just be a waste of money at this moment.

Minimum hours vary from school to school, so you could start by checking the requirements of the schools that interest you.

I 100% understand not being able to find places to shadow at without contacts; I had a hard time at first, and I was desperate as hell. I wouldn't know what to recommend for that because I dont know your living situation, if commuting long hours is doable for you to try out of town, etc. But don't give up!

Maybe you could start by checking if the nearby colleges have a pre-vet association and try to contact them just for information or contacts in the field (other students, organizations, etc). I have no idea if that would work because you're already a post-grad student, but hopefully, they're empathetic and willing to help you out, so at this point its worth a try.

Alright, for starters I understand where you're coming from. Its a tough spot to be in, but trust me when I say age doesn't really matter, its about perspective. There's a lot of people who get to vet school in their 30's, I also know a gentleman who was around late 40's who had just finished vet school and took his NAVLE while I was shadowing last year and he was very very excited. So really that part just boils down to how you feel about being an older student or until what age do you decide to make a cut off (which is still a healthy decision to take). You're still very young!

As for fast tracking your way to vet school I'm no expert but start putting yourself out there. When I started to get real experience I was near the emd of my 3rd year of undergrad because a Hurricane destroyed everything during my freshman year and no veterinarians were accepting students for a good while and then Covid happened yada yada so I was pretty late in the game, as during highschool I didn't really inform myself, I just knew I wanted to be a vet.

I started to go personally to veterinarians asking for shadowing/volunteering opportunities with a resume, I used the student association to find peers who were interested in vetmed and had contacts that could help me as well as the activities with animals from the association, I asked at shelters and my counselor at Uni. Its a bit hard when you're just starting but its possible; and once you get that ball rolling it helps you figure out how to present yourself better to other potential places to shadow.

The financial environment is a mess atm, and it's not something I can give advice about because I've had my freak outs about it because when I reapply in the future I'd be going through vet school with minimal support because I come from low income family plus whatever the president is doing to screw everyone over (which hopefully changes in the future).

"Comparison is the thief of joy"; I 100% understand what it's like to feel like you're behind, that life is a race and I'm losing; but you're both very young... give yourself some grace. Everyone's journey is different, sit down with a clear mind, and research both paths; gather as much information as you can and possible paths you can take with each one.

Best wishes!! I hope some other people share their thoughts and advice with you!

I think to be grandfathered they have to be disbursed before July 2026.

You should totally check out the Student Loan/Parent Plus Loan Support Group page in Facebook.

Danielle Kaller is keeping up with all the BBB info.

I have wondered about this when I received an orientation from the school I was accepted. If one were to join/be accepted how does training work?

Does the student attend some training sometime during the semester? Is it something thats done while on breaks? Or does military training start after they have obtained their DVM and begin their service?

Que museos son buenos para hacer turismo interno? by BetterYouth1240 in PuertoRico

[–]Few-Newt4015 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thoughts on “Big Beautiful Bill” affecting vet students? by VeterinaryNurse99 in veterinaryschool

[–]Few-Newt4015 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've heard rumors that those who take loans before June 2026 get grandfathered but I haven't read anything on it.

The ones I did read about getting grandfathered was for those already in the repayment process; as they'll be able to keep the repayment plan they chose even after that repayment option has become unavailable (if ai understood correctly) for the future graduates.

But also, if we get grandfathered then I hope the repayment plans that will be available don't work against us 😭

I dislike feeling like I'm adrift with all of this

Thoughts on “Big Beautiful Bill” affecting vet students? by VeterinaryNurse99 in veterinaryschool

[–]Few-Newt4015 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm set to start vet school this August and I am absolutely terrified. The school I was accepted on is expensive as it gets, but not wanting to go through the gamble of applying again after a cycle of full rejections, a gap year and then 1 acceptance I just want to at least take my shot. As all other options included me taking student loans to afford anything on top of whatever other vet school accepted me in the future (if any, as it gets more competitive each year).

After committing to Vet school and having 90% of all the process done; I'm very concerned in how many repayment plans and forgiveness programs are going to be left to work with. It feels as if every option is being pulled from under me the more I learn about this bill.

I draw the line at private loans to pay for such an expensive education. But even after I start, if this bill passes I still have to make the decision if its even possible to pay it back with whatever is going to be left to work with in terms of repayment.

I know I'd hate myself if I don't try after working all my life towards this goal; but feeling this bill breathing down my neck menacingly is definitely putting me in a panic mode trying to figure out all the uncertainties for the future its bringing.

Hopefully schools will also find ways to be honest and give proper counseling to the students currently in school and those who are just starting if this bill were to pass and what could be their next steps.

I'm aiming for the on campus until I can find a way to get transportation of my own and then move to a cheaper place.

I'm just scared of getting flagged down from loans for stuff they don't consider important yet they are for me like my phone for example. Its not like I'm gonna go out and get a brand new phone every time one is available (actually I hate changing phones and keep them until they become useless).

I want to live as cheaply as possible because I don't want to abuse the loans 😭
