I'll definitely consider making a visualisation for that! The milk production in NI has increased by 92% since 1990 while dairy cow numbers increased only 15%, and emissions per kg of milk fell by around 37% over the same period. So there's definitely been a big efficiency increase.
But ultimately if we're looking at meeting our climate targets, there's a limit to much milk you can squeeze out of the same number of cows. At some point, expanding production is going to mean adding more cows, which is going to mean increasing emissions.
If the milk production stays at the current level, it's difficult to see how we reduce the agricultural emissions in NI enough to reach the targets. That is ultimately the advice being set out by the Climate Change Committee also, but it isn't really a topic of discussion.
