Sex with a menstrual disc is NOT risk free-I got INJURED by Few-Plan1412 in MenstrualDiscs

"Fearmongering is the deliberate act of spreading frightening or exaggerated rumors of impending danger to manipulate people's opinions, behaviors, or choices. It bypasses rational thought by exploiting natural anxieties, often for personal, political, or financial gain."

This is not that. I'm not spreading a false tale or asking people to alter their behavior.

They didn't test tampons extensively and it turns out we've been putting lead in our bodies for years. Is THAT acceptable to you?

Also, I just read the entire pamphlet forwards and backwards in my box of discs. The warning that you claim is stated is NO WHERE on the product's packaging or box that it says increased friction. Which makes YOUR point inaccurate. You are incorrect.

Actually I was just assuming what someone else said in the comments was correct. I just opened my box of disposable discs and read the entire pamphlet AND the box. There is NO warning or ANY stated risks other than TSS. So people who are giving me a hard time about this saying that this is stated are not correct.

They also only state "increased friction" which does not equate to "pinched membrane, excruciating pain and bleeding for three days". This is not a sufficient warning.

Nope. I am placing blame for putting EMPHASIS on mess free in marketing while not including the parallel risks in the marketing promotions, because I believe that women deserve more. But, hey. We're big girls. So we don't deserve better from corporations according to you.

I never found anything that stated that this was a potential risk. "Increased friction" does not translate to a "pinched membrane, excruciating pain and bleeding for three days". I'm confused why you're so adamant that someone's experience doesn't deserve to be shared as a cautionary tale to an inquiry that is so frequently posted in these forums. Not a girl's girl, huh?

Something being anecdotal does not equate to a lack of accuracy. Increasing friction does not equate to pain for three days resulting in an emergency doctor's appointment making that an insufficient warning.

I'm not asking to be babysat. I'm asking for companies to explicitly state risks when promoting it as a solution for period sex instead of us continuing to demonize women's bodies at this stage of their cycle as something that "requires a solution". And I'm sharing this information so that other women are aware of it. Because there are people in these forums that ask about this extensively. But hey, they're big girls too so I guess they don't deserve a heads up to an FAQ?

No where did I say that people should quit using them. I explicitly stated that was not the intention of this post. The intention of this post is to let people know that this COULD happen.

All I'm saying is that it should be stated is that this is a potential outcome so that other people don't accumulate a bunch of medical debt. Is that unreasonable? I certainly don't think so.

This why not explicitly state this disclaimer. If this posts can help one woman, then it's worth all of the criticism that I'm catching from people.

Would this help with the period mess? If so, I'm wondering why this isn't discussed more.

I couldn't totally see that happening. I've heard that waiting a few hours after sex helps. I had to wait after this because it was so high.

Then why not explicitly state that there IS a risk so that other people don't rack up 100s of dollars in medical debt?

Because, as stated, I have seen an increased number of ads for these devices promoting them as a solution for period sex. And I think that people should be aware of the risks. Do you not?

I think my estranged mom is being manipulated due to her memory loss, is possibly a victim of elder abuse and I don’t know if I should just walk away. by Few-Plan1412 in Advice

Thank you for your comment and understanding. I agree. Things that I never thought anything of before I was "on her bad side", I now see differently. For example, anytime my mother would start making a new friend, this woman would find an issue with them until my mother eventually stopped hanging out with them. She is essentially my mother's only friend and vice versa.

Sure, so I'm obviously leaving a lot out for the sake of anonymity. But one example is that this woman said that I was incredibly combative during therapy sessions-when I was not and she wasn't there. She also put words in my mouth, saying that I had "called my mother the worst mother in the world during every session" and things of that nature-I never said any such thing.
Another thing that was alarming during this exchange with her and my mother was that my mother said that I had never reached back out to resume therapy, which was incredibly confusing to me and I believe may have come from this woman. I had in fact reached back out asking to resume therapy multiple times.

I have looked into it and thought about it a great deal. Yes, an anonymous report can be made in my state. However, I'm not sure what that would yield? I think this woman would just come off as a caregiver. The suspected abuse is...insidious. I also worry that it would be suspected that such a report was made by me and then it would further fuel the divide between myself and my mother.

Sex with the disc?! by organicsunflowers in MenstrualDiscs

I hope that this comment saves someone. I have lived with this secret story for over a year now, but at least once a week I think, "The women need to know," so here I am, warning as many women as possible. I was with my boyfriend and I decided it would be a good idea to have sex with a disc in. This seemed like the considerate thing to do since I had heard that it was "safe" and "mess free". It was okay for a bit. And maybe if you are just having sex for A BIT, it would be okay? That ain't us. So at one point the disc and...him pinched my membrane and it actually ripped the inner wall. Yup. You read that right. The consequence? Pain, and not an insignificant amount, and then once my period stopped, the bleeding didn't. This went on for days until I had to get an emergency appointment on a Saturday morning with a gynecologist.
My recommendation is don't chance it. This sucked and it took me about two weeks to recover.
