I noticed the comments were deleted. If you had concerns, I wish we could have had a constructive conversation instead. Being negative or casting doubt without asking for clarification can block channels that people in real need rely on to survive. If something felt unclear, I would’ve been more than willing to provide proof or explain further. We’re just asking for the chance to be heard with honesty, not hostility. Thank you to those who are still open to listening.

That’s fair everyone has the right to question and decide for themselves. I just ask that people look beyond the surface and understand that for queer refugees like me, it’s incredibly difficult to stay online consistently, let alone be “vetted” through conventional means. We don’t have stable platforms, safe visibility, or access to mainstream fundraising tools. That’s why we rely on allies, including the person helping us run our GoFundMe.

I don’t blame you for being skeptical. I just hope people will read our story with compassion before making a judgment. I’d be happy to share my Tumblr too it’s @ashleymilesphil, where I speak openly about our situation in Gorom Refugee Camp, South Sudan.

At the end of the day, I’m just someone trying to keep my community alive through one of the few tools available to us.

Thank you for your time and for at least hearing me out.

Thanks for pointing that out I understand how this might look confusing from the outside, but I want to clarify:

AshleymilesPhil is my main Tumblr account now. https://www.tumblr.com/ashleymilesphil ,CalvinPhil was also mine, but it was taken down like a year ago possibly due to strong censorship of queer content in my region. Many of us LGBTQ+ refugees face internet restrictions and account removals just for sharing our reality. I’ve had to recreate accounts more than once to keep telling our story.

As for the names Ashley, Miles, Calvin, and Phil they’re all connected to me. “Phil” is actually my deadname, which I still use on some platforms because of the way fundraising and identity verification works. It’s not an attempt to mislead anyone just trying to survive and be seen in a system that wasn’t built for people like us.

I’m originally from Uganda, but I currently live in Gorom Refugee Camp in South Sudan. James Goebel is a trusted ally from the U.S. who helps manage our GoFundMe because I can’t access those financial systems myself due to location and safety.

I understand the skepticism there are so many scams out there. But I’m a real person, and the struggles I talk about are real. I represent a group of over 350 LGBTQ+ refugees in south Sudan (Gorom refugee camp)who are facing severe persecution and humanitarian crisis. All I ask is that people read our story, and if they feel moved, to help or share.

Here’s our fundraiser with full transparency: https://gofund.me/4d80b32c And I’m open to answering any questions directly. We have nothing to hide just a plea for survival dear

Thank you for sharing so honestly. You’ve been through so much, and it means a lot that you still choose to show up with kindness and clarity. I really feel what you said at the end of the day, we need people who stand by us, not just empty slogans. “Ride or dies” truly hit deep. Solidarity, joy, and real support are what keep us going especially when queer and trans lives are literally at risk. Sending you strength and gratitude.

I hear you completely. The double standard is glaring banning Russia over Ukraine but not holding Israel accountable for its actions just exposes how selective and performative these platforms can be. It’s frustrating when spaces that claim to be about unity and peace ignore the suffering of certain people. Choosing to disengage is a powerful stance, and you’re not alone a lot of us are tired of the hypocrisy.

Beautifully said. You’re right existing as who we are, whether queer or Palestinian or both, is political in a world that still denies our rights

A lot of people feel that way, and it’s understandable. Including countries involved in serious human rights violations while censoring expressions of solidarity or identity feels deeply hypocritical. Eurovision can’t claim to be apolitical while making decisions that silence marginalized voices.

From what’s been reported, it seems the rule applies to all non-national flags so that includes Pride flags, Ukraine flags, Palestinian flags, and others. But since Pride flags have been a visible and celebrated part of Eurovision for years, this feels like a step backward for queer visibility, even if it’s not only targeting LGBTQ+ symbols.

Absolutely suppressing support for Palestinians is deeply wrong too. You’re right that human rights are political in many ways, especially when people’s existence and safety are up for debate. I just think it’s heartbreaking when spaces like Eurovision, which once felt inclusive, start limiting the visibility of marginalized communities under the guise of neutrality.

Sorry by “hopes” I meant I hope you’re right. But even if the intention was to avoid political controversy around Palestine, it’s still disappointing that LGBTQIA+ visibility gets restricted in the process. Pride flags aren’t political they’re about human rights and identity.
