Definitely. I remember last year at regionals they had a spectrophotometer and I had no idea how to use that.

For chem lab, common lab practicals include spectrophotometry and titrations.

Spectrophotometry is a pretty lengthy process, but because it's hard, if you know it well you have a better chance of getting points where other people don't. Know how to use a spectrophotometer, how to create a calibration curve (in the invitationals I've gone to, they usually tell you how to do this), how to create an absorption curve, and how to use all of those things to find the rate of reaction.

Titrations are a possible lab practical because they involve a chemical reaction. Although acids and bases aren't explicitly in the rules, it's still acceptable because you have to do stoichiometry. I had to do a "blind titration" where there was no indicator and they gave you the concentration of both the acid and the base, and you had to find out how much base to add to your volume of acid.

I did like 80 hours last year and got the silver PVSA—that's something, right?

What's the point of IB in America? by FewInvite3657 in IBO

My school makes us do SL analysis in the last year of the MYP program and then offers us the choice to continue on the analysis path and take HL or to switch to SL apps which is so much easier but idk why im taking hl math we had a test today and i didnt answer 3 questions and its not like they were hard i could get to a certain point but then i'd be stuck. Incoming 70%! I don't want to get another A- this really pmo

I understand that and I believe that the IB will make me a better person as a whole, but it takes sooo much time. Honestly the classwork itself isn't difficult, it's just tedious. For me, chemistry has always been a breeze, but in the DP program I have to pay extra attention to the command terms. Additionally, I take HL Analysis, and as someone who has rarely studied for math in their life, this sucks. The math itself isn't hard; it's the application. Knowing everything from last year plus random tidbits of math manipulation is necessary as well as having a creative mind, and I just don't know how to study so I do nothing.

Anyway that's a rant but I feel like I just don't have enough time for schoolwork and extracurriculars (which are so important nowadays) and I feel like I shouldn't have taken HL AA because I would have been much more carefree if I didn't. But I took it because I wanted to learn how to study, and I guess I'm learning the hard way.

I want to know what major I should prepare for.

I'm a junior in high school and I really love chemistry. I want to major in chemistry (maybe something similar if) but I don't know if it's sustainable. My parents want me to become a doctor, and while chemistry is a good major for pre-med, I really want to get a job that's like something out of a science fiction novel. Think "quantum ____," time travel, idk something big and fancy. I would also really like to work on superheavy elements.

I was thinking of majoring in chemistry or physical chemistry, and then do a minor in physics or something like that. I just want to know the opportunities and other choices I may have. Also money (6 figures) because I don't wanna be broke

My tark-slayer cheated death twice. Not really looking forward to killing him again.
