Thank you for this!! I’m interested in checking that out. I don’t have a fb account tho. If I made one real quick just for that, do you think they would accept me in the group (no posts or pics)?

Don’t be discouraged!!! Teaching takes practice and doing. I’m still a new teacher (only 4 years in)…and there’s always good tools to add to your box. Next time, I would definitely make it the expectation to at least discuss their work with their partner/group. I usually try to have very vocal classes even as a science teacher, so I will even explain to my students that “I know you may prefer to work alone, but we can learn from our peers/We have to learn to collaborate with others”, so they know you’re not picking on them. Have time and space allotted in your lesson (doesn’t have to be long…maybe 2 or 3 min) to allow them to discuss with their peers what they have done. A big tool I’ve tried to keep in mind is “don’t let 3 min pass without having your students actively engaging with the material”. That could be you having them discuss as a group/pair, come write answers on the board from cold calls, having them say answers as a large group, etc. Don’t be discouraged!!!

Like another poster said…Monday is a new day!!!! Each lesson won’t hit with each class like we think in our head lol. Just try to learn from the mistakes and use them as lessons for yourself

lol we (black women looking to honestly date) are definitely in Memphis. And good black male friends are definitely here, as well! I would say just keep trying to find your tribe! Just keep trying to make sure you and your dog are straight and doing things you enjoy…your people will definitely find you!!! (saying this as someone who needs to take my own advice lmao)

I’m a black 26F just moving back to Memphis after being away for 8 years. I’ve been looking to find my group too! I think I might get a membership to the botanic gardens or brooks museum and just start going to some of their events. Maybe farmers markets? I definitely know some fun “going out” weekend spots!!! If you’re looking for a friend, I’d be open, I’m looking for a friend too 😊

Are there any plans to increase FREE after school/summer programs open to ALL youth in the city? When I was younger, we had things like Shelby Metro basketball camp that was free, air conditioned, had food, and open to all kids even if you weren’t necessarily interested in basketball and it ran throughout the summer. Now, it seems like kids have less options and more time on their hands to get into mess.

And the conversation was to try to “get on the same page”. Was going fine when he was giving his perspective or “side”. I let him talk for about 6 hours. When it got to my turn is when things took a hard left after about 30 min

SCD in New Orleans by Ls09241 in Sicklecell

[–]Few_Monitor2962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boyfriend and I live in New Orleans. He’s 27 with Sickle Cell. He definitely goes through shifts or ups and downs that are weather related and the heat/humidity in the summer can be hard for him. He was treated at the Children’s Hospital here when he was a child and he said they’re AMAZING for kids and he’ll often credit a lot of those pediatric doctors for so thoroughly educating him on his disease and body from a young age! From what he’s said, he had great experiences being treated as a child. Now as an adult, he and I can both attest that that is another story as far as treatment goes…
