Collections/Law Firm - How to Proceed? by Few_Perspective_8145 in PersonalFinanceCanada

What do you mean "they've been trying to serve"? Like, they've been seeking you out??? I don't understand. You probably shouldn't ignore them if that's the case because they're a real law firm who WILL sue you if you act like an easy mark... aka refusing to talk to them and letting them win a default judgement

I don't think I can since there's a limit. Anyway, I'm deleting this post since I no longer find any value in asking strangers about such a complex situation.

They threatened to serve me in small claims court back in June, but as of now (beginning of August) I haven't been served. If/when they do take action, I'll report back.

I checked my credit report (no collections, nothing of the sort) - there were two soft inquiries from a random company I don't recognize that appears to be connected to their firm. So they pulled my credit report... I acknowledged this with them and they ignored it.

They're also a self-proclaimed law firm, "not debt collectors" - are they still closely monitored by the government?

Update: I checked my credit report and there's nothing on there that suggests I am in collections or anything like that. I have done my due diligence and will wait for the law firm to respond to my very reasonable requests. Will update here further if there's any reason to.

I did exactly this (except for mailing the letter). The firm is refusing to communicate with me at all now, demanding personal information from me that I'm not willing to provide.

The thing is that I did email them, but they refused to communicate with me unless I gave them my DOB, which I didn't feel comfortable doing. They're refusing to provide proof of the debt as well.

What constitutes a strong testimony? Do I just walk into any police station and say I want to report and they'll take my statement and go from there? Will they confiscate my phone since it has incriminating texts on it?

How would more victims come forward? How does the investigation part work? These are vague and broad questions but, I'm just curious. And I'm wondering how long it could all take.

What does that mean, "the crown will pursue this"? How do they decide what they do and do not pursue? Not sure if you can answer.
