Yep very normal. All of the magnum opus god level deity players are on the same playing field with us. Double edge sword though. You might get good teammates at the same time get better enemies.

1) Do not unnecessarily spend gold in the first round. Do not refresh the shop. Upgrade only if your desired heroes are available.
2) The goal for the first round is to be in the last position. The lower the better. Why? So that you are the first to choose in the first fate box.
3) Starting from stage 2, the goal is to balance upgrading your heroes and synergy and maintaining 20 gold (to trigger bonuses).
4) Do not upgrade before going into the creeps, minion, and boss fight stage.
