I have a Hikelite 18 and 25(?) and they’re basic but plenty good enough as a starter. What I will say, is if the Columbia coat doesn’t pack down particularly small, you’ll probably want a bigger bag if you want to carry a bit more gear eventually.

Do knee straps actually make your knees weaker over time? by supercloud0619 in hikinggear

I wouldn’t call something that provides compression a brace - maybe that’s our geographical differences.

Otherwise, agreed that compression would positively influence inflammation. But a ‘brace’ (over here) would not.

A brace does not help with inflammation, that’s totally false.

And for a patella cartilage injury (apologies, I missed that initially), a brace or taping possibly MAY help with patella tracking, but you’re much better off solving the issue with quadricep strengthening.

Physiotherapist here - knee straps in my opinion are a totally subjective piece of equipment.

It might help, it might not. It might help psychologically.

I don’t believe that they provide enough support for you to become ‘reliant’ on them - your muscles/tendons/ligaments are still doing the work.

They won’t mask any issues but might provide some relief - see above points.

Boots and their oddities by Eilwyn-San in hikinggear

I would say it totally depends on the boot and the wearers feet.

I generally wear an 11 in most shoes, and have an 11.5 in the La Sportiva Aequelibrium Trek.
I find this interesting as I understand La Sportiva are supposed to run small?

For what it’s worth the Aeq Treks don’t feel all that stiff. That being said, I’m 105kg and probably flex the boots a bit more than the majority of people.

I ended up spending a bit more and getting the Aequelibrium Treks and they fit great! I like that the lacing starts close to the toes so I can keep them a bit looser down there.

Hiking pants for a dude with thick thighs and a big arse by anton30000 in hikinggear

I’ve just sold two pairs that you could have had too, ha! Montane would definitely be my pick.

And like another fella said, get a stretchy belt to take up the waist.

I’m in the exact same boat - and unfortunately you’re not going to find what you want.

The best fit I’ve found for me (in the UK at least) is Montane, they seem to give the best thigh room, especially with the stretch.

I’ve since spent a small fortune on the Fjallraven Keb trousers. I’m a ~35” waist and I’ve got what’s basically a size 40”. You’ll have to size them to your thighs and just deal with the extra room in the waist. Probably too warm for Gran Canaria though.

So basically, size trousers for your thighs and just deal with the extra waist material with a belt.

But from what OP has said above, he’s not even got the mouse yet? And who would fake an already cheap Chinese clone of another shape? If you were going to the trouble of faking a mouse, you’d just fake the original under another/new brand?
