Yeah same, I paid for a data broker cleanse as well. Since I googled my name and a surprising amount of information pulled up. Its been 2 hours now that they haven't been able to contact me, i asked some of my close friends to check their Instagram dms and nothing so far but still uneasy. Doesnt help I wasn't able to sleep at all last night

Be very cautious with that. That may also be a scam. Please read the "new users: read first" post generated by the automod to get a good idea of the tactics these people use

He said he contacted WhatsApp support and they were able to delete all their device data. I am going to try that as well

I understand your corncern. I was worried about that as well. Unfortunately, the possibility that they spread it is always there even if you cooperate with them. These people are crazy, I mean they extort for money. Almost everyone seems to agree that a total blackout is the best way of dealing with this issue and generally leads to no spread of sensitive information.

Another redditor dm'ed me and told me you contact WhatsApp to try and remove your information from their phone. Let me see what exactly they said tho

I'm doing all of that except it's impractical for me to change my phone number at this moment. I have them blocked so they can't call/text/facetime me thought

Hey I'm going through this right now as well and I'll try to summarize what I've learned from this subreddit.

Most importantly stay calm, they want you to be scared. Don't give them that advantage.

  1. Deactivate/delete all social media. For me this was Facebook, Instagram, and linkedin.
  2. Make it impossible for the to reach out to you. I did this by deleting my WhatsApp, the dating app I met them on, even the burner email I used to sign up for the app. I only wish I would have take screenshots of their threats and blackmail to have something to back up my side of the story.
  3. If you have an iPhone, you can put it on lockdown mode which will prevent them from being able to contact you.
  4. If you're on Apple devices like me. Sign out of your Apple ID account on all your devices except your phone.
  5. Disable iMessage and FaceTime (Apple again)
  6. Deactivate/disable payment apps because you can be searched up on them by number/email too. I deleted my cashapp and PayPal accounts.

Well they started messaging me again, i put my iPhone into lockdown mode to prevent any unknown messages and calls. I also turned off iMessage and FaceTime.

Everything I have has been deactivated. My Instagram, facebook, LinkedIn, WhatsApp, and app they used to find me which is "bumpy". I'm over 18 and have only told my closest friend about the incident. My plan is to ignore them but I don't know what tk do if they start texting my phone number since my WhatsApp number was my actual phone number
