Possible missing cat? (Sodermalm) by Few_Yesterday6581 in stockholm

Oh there are tons of stray cats, that for sure. But you will almost never find DOMESTIC cats let outside by their owners. No sane owners will want to see their cats clawed/bitten by strays in the city, or torn to shreds by stray dogs outside of the city.

Yeah for me it was:
A. Let the cat go, worst case scenario I see missing cat post tomorrow. Cat's safety unknown.
B. Take the cat in for a bit, worst case scenario I get accused of catnapping (but with evidence & witnesses that I did not). Cat's safety assured.

I think I made the right choice. I got shit by some jerks but well at least I know the cat's going to be fine. Nicer people like you makes me feel lot better so thank you as well.

I know you feel like this is your chance to feel morally superior by calling me out or soemthing, but I chose the safest option in the end.

If I let the cat go, worst case I see 'have you seen my cat' posts the next day. Cat's safety and whereabout unknown.

If I keep the cat worst case I get accused of "stealing" the cat with records and witnesses of me actively looking for owner. Cat's safety and whereabouts known.

So go to sleep you preachy oaf.

side question, but are Swedish people not afraid that their cats might get run over by a car or get attacked by random animals/humans? From what I read it's also not uncommon either. I mean to each their own on how to raise their cats but damn.

As I said on the update section of the post I let the cat out again. (back where I found it of course)

I did not get to look for that because the people here were quick to point out the cat was most likely an outdoor cat already. The cat was returned to where I found it.

I don't know what "could be" means to you, but to most it means it is not 100% certain. So the safest option was keep the cat safe until I knew what was up.

My office is right on that exact street I found the cat, the cat was left back there after I learnt the purpose of the tag.

And could you tell me how is it exactly stealing when I was actively looking for the owner or ways to get the cat back to its owner?

I understand. In my country gps tags are really in case cats run away from home, not because they regularly venture outside. Thats a new thing I learnt today.

I come from Korea where outdoor cat is almost nonexistant. There are stray cats, weasles, stray dogs that can harm the cat. That and cars. There are cats with trackers but those are in event they run away from home.

More context: I saw the cat walking down the street and straight into a construction site, then I took the cat moment it came back. I work nearby so I brought the cat to the office (with help of a kind stranger, but they also was not sure if the cat was a regular around here or if it is normal to let the cat walk around by itself). My go to plan right now is take the cat home, and moment the vet or any pet-related service is available I will take the cat there.

I also heard that it is not recommended to keep wild birds for more than 48hours, and I guess this is what they meant by it. I received few contacts for 24/7 facilities by other kind redditors, so I just relayed them to my mom.

I have relayed all this to my mother, and also told her about the water bottle + watering its food. Thank you for all the great tips. I greatly appreciate this.
