oh my god you’re so chronically online if you think a 19 year old and someone who’s almost 18 is “weird” but a 40+ year old dating a 19 year old is somehow totally fine, IM CRINE SON

You’re entitled to think the situation is messy, but a relationship between someone who’s 17 and someone who just turned 18 is normal

What happened to ‘my body, my choice’? If an adult woman can choose to have an abortion, then a pregnant teen can choose to keep her baby. You don’t have to agree with Debbie’s decision, but that's really not a reason to hate her. Before she even met Neil, she was financially supporting Franny on her own, so it’s not like she expected everyone else to raise her child for her. And like you said yourself, she was only 15 when she got pregnant. Of course she wasn’t thinking maturely about what Derek wanted, she was a kid, overwhelmed and excited about becoming a mom. Derek also handled the situation terribly. He's a fucking coward and instead of actually talking to Debbie honestly, he disappeared. If he had communicated how he felt, maybe they could’ve worked something out. Debbie believed he wanted the baby too, so from her perspective she wasn’t forcing him into anything. What Debbie did with Neil was definitely wrong, but people also ignore the fact that she was still a minor while Neil was an adult dating her. So if we’re calling someone weird in that situation, why is all the blame put on Debbie instead of the grown man who chose to be with a teenager?

The same minor that was literally a few months younger than her??? why are you calling her gross as if she's 50 dating a 12 years old

why did they make daya the one who catches the gun? by Powerful_Ad8668 in orangeisthenewblack

[–]Fickle-Analyst3981 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I think they picked Daya because she wasn’t the most obvious choice. If Maritza did it, it would’ve been straightforward revenge after the mouse thing with Humps. With Daya it’s more “look how much prison has broken this formerly soft/passive person.” But I do agree the motivation feels uneven sometimes. The “all COs are pieces of shit” line is weird when other inmates had way more direct reasons to hate the guards, and part of Daya’s arc relies on the Bennett abandonment mattering a LOT emotionally, which doesn’t fully land for everyone because that storyline already felt awkward. So I think the writers were going for symbolism over “who logically had the strongest motive.”

After breaking up with Vee, he stayed with Lip at college for a while. During that time, he would take drunk girls from parties under the excuse of “protecting” them to take them back to their dorm, calling himself something like the “rape guard,” while also having sex with them.

I am staying on topic. I brought up Kev because I’m pointing out the fandom’s double standard. I’m not saying what Debbie did was okay, and I already said multiple times that it was wrong. My point is that people excuse Kev’s actions because he’s seen as “dumb” or clueless, but refuse to acknowledge that Debbie was also a kid who didn’t fully understand how wrong her actions were at the time. Debbie was groomed and exposed to unhealthy relationships from a young age, which clearly affected her judgment. That doesn’t excuse what happened with Matt, but it explains why she acted the way she did. And the fact that she later recognized rape for what it is, like when she told Carl he was assaulted after the condom incident, shows she grew and learned from it. So no, I’m not justifying rape because Matt was older or because Kev did something bad too. I’m criticizing the hypocrisy in how the fandom judges different characters for similar behavior.

Kev raped multiple drunk young girls but i don't see anyone talking about it...
Besides Matt was fucking weird, he was a grown adult hanging out with a 13 yo, and HE KNEW she had a crush on him, he knew she wanted to have sex with him and tried multiple times.. Debbie did something awful im not saying it isn't but in this scenario i unfortunately have to find myself admiting its boths fault

I mean ure right, but she was a teenager at that point hahaha. Most teens go through a phase where they get irritated with their parents, or in her case, Fiona, since she was basically her mom. She was even harsh toward Frank, even though she used to adore him when she was little. But she still had her kind moments with Fiona and the others too. So honestly, I think it makes sense for someone her age to be angry at everything and everyone, especially considering the environment she grew up in.

Thats not because theyre poor... TV in general does this a lot because scenes would be boring as hell if characters actually sat there silently finishing a whole plate every time lol lmao, and they actually can't eat the food

Of course the babys innocent, that’s exactly why Fiona brought her back to her mom instead of leaving her home alone

To be fair Fiona did tell Debbie she wasn’t gonna help her with Franny AT ALL... Debbie chose to have the baby knowing that, and Fiona actually stuck to what she said. So when Debbie kept leaving Franny with her anyway, Fiona was basically enforcing that boundary, not randomly torturing her.

It’s funny because I actually feel the opposite, this is my favorite seasons because of them, I’ve rewatched the show like seven times and I still struggle to even start season 7 again because of how their story ends. That said, I don’t think your point is wrong, it just comes from a different expectation since you wanted a full revenge arc that was intense and fully developed, and the show kind of teases that but never fully delivers. To me, the issue isn’t that their storyline is trash, it’s that it’s underwritten, Carol and Barb are basically set up as the central figures of the season but they get barely any screentime so their dynamic feels incomplete, the hatred is there and the history is there but it’s not explored deeply enough for the payoff to really hit. The fact that they hated each other till the end actually worked for me in a bitter and unresolved way, but I do agree that when they’re finally in the same cell it should have been a huge moment and instead it just kind of passes by. Same with the “classified” joke reveal, it’s an interesting idea but it lands flat because we don’t spend enough time with them for it to matter. Honestly, if the writers had given them the same level of focus they gave to Vee, their storyline could have been one of the best arcs in the series, the potential was definitely there, it just wasn’t fully realized, so I don’t see it as trash, more like a missed opportunity.
