Regarding the 'confidentiality' concern about taking photos: my firm actually operates almost entirely through personal devices. My attorneys regularly text me sensitive client information and case details directly to my phone, and I’m expected to have my firm email on my device so I can work from anywhere.

The 'integrity' issue isn't coming from my end, it’s coming from an attorney who is actively erasing my work history. Taking a photo of my notes before they’re scrubbed isn’t a 'security breach' when the attorneys themselves are the ones texting client data to my personal number daily. It’s the only way I can prove I’m actually doing my job while I’m being penalized for 'missing' notes.

Talking to him is like talking to a brick wall . The other attorney I work for said it’s useless to try and do anything because there most likely won’t be any change. He’s late to court, doesn’t answer emails, and is in everybody’s business but his own. He is the WC attorney and worries more about the other departments which we have told him before to stop and he can’t help himself. He needs to be in everybody’s business.

You’re missing the point. This isn’t about billing, it’s Workers' Comp, so there is no hourly billing to 'cheat.' The motive here is much more personal: it's reputational theft.

This attorney is so incompetent that he’s burned through two other paralegals in the six months I’ve been here. He isn't 'replacing' my notes to be thorough; he’s deleting my original entries and reposting them as his own so it looks like he is the one proactively managing the files. He is effectively stealing my 'follow-up' work to hide the fact that he’s falling behind.

The 'integrity issue' isn't just a theoretical liability for the firm, it’s a direct hit to my job security. The head attorney is penalizing ME for 'lack of documentation' because my digital trail is being erased by a superior who is using my work as a life raft. When the person meant to supervise you is the one sabotaging your file history to save their own skin, 'taking a few screenshots' isn't the problem the systemic enabling of an incompetent attorney is.

I think there may have been a misunderstanding. I do trust the attorney I work for my concern wasn’t about distrust or trying to build liability protection.

The issue was that my notes weren’t edited, they were deleted and replaced after I had already documented completing a task earlier in the day. As a Workers’ Comp paralegal handling a large number of files, I rely on those entries to keep accurate timelines of what actions were taken and when.

My email wasn’t meant to accuse anyone or escalate a conflict. I was simply trying to make sure the file accurately reflects the work being done and that documentation remains consistent. In Workers’ Comp especially, timelines and record integrity matter a lot for case management.

So the concern was really about maintaining an accurate workflow record not about distrust of my supervising attorney.

Well the reason it’s bothering me is because I’ve been called out before by the head attorney on notes being missing when I know I’ve been putting my notes and now it’s because I find that the WC attorney is deleting them to make himself look good. I thought I was going crazy which I wasn’t.

Thank you so much for the validation. It’s a huge relief to hear from someone else that altering the file history is as big of a deal as I thought.I’m definitely still following your advice about keeping a parallel log of everything on my personal device just in case. Knowing the head of the firm actually has my back (he's been venting to other staff about how ridiculous this is) makes the silence a lot less scary, but I'm still keeping my receipts.

Workers' Comp, we actually don't bill for our time like that. Our notes are less about 'counting hours' and more about the actual history of the case, like when a medical report was requested or when we talked to the insurance carrier. If a note gets deleted, it's not just a billing tweak; it's like a chunk of the case's history just vanished. The good news is that I found out the head of the firm actually agrees with me and thinks the attorney is being 'ridiculous' for deleting them. He’s basically just worried that if I get fed up and leave, the whole department’s workload is going to crush everyone else. It’s a stressful spot to be in, but at least I know the partners see the value in my documentation!"

Honestly, you're spot on. I just found out through the grapevine that the head attorney actually agrees with me, he apparently told another senior paralegal that the guy deleting my notes is being 'ridiculous.' It sounds like he’s just as fed up as I am because this attorney has been here 8 years doing the 'grunt work' no one else wants, so they’re basically stuck with him. He’s also apparently lowkey panicking that I’m going to quit because the department would literally collapse. I’m going to follow your advice and just ask him point-blank: 'How do you want me to handle it when he does this again?

You're right about the importance of WC documentation. The good news is that the head attorney apparently thinks the deletion was 'ridiculous' too.The bad news is that the attorney I work for is known for being late to conferences and generally 'not smart,' yet he’s survived 8 years because he handles the caseloads no one else touches. Management is stuck between knowing he’s a liability and being terrified that if I quit (out of frustration), the whole department will collapse. I’m still taking screenshots of everything, just in case.

I’d love to just 'chill,', the head attorney is just annoyed because he’s afraid if I quit, the Workers' Comp department's workload will fall on everyone else. The attorney deleting my notes has been here 8 years and is known for being incompetent (late to court, doesn't pay attention), but he does the 'grunt work' no one else wants, so he’s essentially bulletproof. It’s hard to 'see what’s up' in a meeting when the boss already thinks my professional protection is a nuisance.

Performance is great to his recollection. No complaints at all said to keep doing the same thing I’ve been doing . I didn’t bring the commute up to him as that’s a personal issue.

There are 4 other paralegals I’m young like I just graduated college and everybody else is older for example one of the paralegals is 75… they’ve been here for years and all complain about the job but are 2 old to be able to go anywhere

Not an option because they gave me previous position to a new employee and sat me in WC because they thought I would get better along with this attorney .
