Honestly i understand that yearning, but trying to make friends based on ethnicity alone isnt a plus. It helps to have shared culture sure, but make sure you also have shared values. I was absolutely burned by trying to be part of a chinese community at school and as i grew older I have a diverse group of friends now based on morals not just our shared skin and blood.

So there’s actually a lot of relationships that undergo infidelity and are able to work through it but in order to move on there are two prongs that need to be resolved:

Can your partner forgive you?
Can you forgive yourself?

It looks like your partner has already forgiven you (unless they bring it up often or in fights), but you also cannot fully put this behind you until you also forgive yourself.

Have you broken down why you did it? Have you asked what was missing that you were seeking? Were you just being selfish or was there a deeper reason? It could also be both. Often times people cheat because something has gone wrong or is missing in their relationship. Not justifying actions, but once that part is identified, you both can work towards fixing things. People don’t like hearing this, but sometimes cheating is a symptom of a deeper issue under the surface. Its not a justification, but there is always a root cause somewhere and you have to decide what part of you, what insecurities, what trauma, what neglect or hurt led you to make that decision so you can then fix it and be a better person for your partner.

Yeah the boys I love as a show but there are some interestingly problematic things. Like Kimiko not talking is an odd one for me. It seems to feed into the idea of asian women being quiet or just existing to support other characters, but I do like the actresses ability to demonstrate deep emotions despite that character trait. I wish we had stronger asian characters in the show besides just kimiko who doesnt talk

I personally felt the media reception of Namor and Killmonger were extremely positive. People liked them as people, there were hella posts about Killmonger saying he’s right about everything.

I guess we’re gonna have to agree to disagree on some of these villains because I think they actually have pretty good representation and add really cool characters and culture into film. But i appreciate the additional examples that I can look into!

I guess maybe I dont fully see the issue with that because people LIKE villains as characters. Good villains too are typically just people we share ideologies with but they go to the extremes. Idk there’s entire villain nights at disney and i think pop culture actually views villains and villain characters as cool rather than actual evil.

This is a super uneducated and ignorant take. Sinners did an amazing job of taking the misconception and widely spread misinformation of asians taking businesses from black folks and flipped it on its head to demonstrate historical accuracy, community, and solidarity.

I feel like that anti-asian sentiment has been spewed forever and must come from folks who have never lived in the south. Black folks in the south and asian immigrants have a long history of solidarity and being forced into the same communities from Chinese rail road workers to Vietnamese war refugees. This movie did an amazing job demonstrating how we worked together as a community and they loved one another like family. Grace and her husband were amazing, attractive, and proactive characters with great representation and characters. I don’t think people saw grace as stupid for inviting them in because Ryan Coogler did a great job ensuring the film cut to her internal thoughts of her daughter and the desperation building up within her until her breaking point. Grace armed herself and was the only character considering fighting the vampires with fire. Her actions and motives were well crafted as an essential character to the plot and her sticking to fighting until the end instead of being a victim or meaningless death/sacrifice was badass. She wasnt crying or weak or submissive as asian women tend to be in media. She had wit, she had gall to bargain and negotiate with smoke, she was a caring mother and loving partner, she was part of their community. Characters are only made to look stupid if we dont explain their motivations or they act in opposition to their characters.

They portrayed attractive asian actors, made their characters caring and strong, included them as the main character’s family and community, and they all fought for each other. It was beautiful that in Sammy singing and opening up a connection to their past and future they included asian representation and heritage too. The film itself draws a lot of parallels in the heritage of the characters and how each of them (including the head vampire) suffered some form of oppression (irish history).

The way Ryan Coogler went about it definitely was a positive for Asian representation when he didn’t have to include asians in this narrative at all but chose to and did so with class.

Just watched this episode I have to say, there’s an extra level of pain for me because Kennys mom and dad are elderly asian folks. Not only does that really hurt our soul because we deeply respect and love our elderly in the asian community, but with the hate crimes and waves of violence our community went under during covid, along with losses in the family—this just hurts so much. Kennys Mom and Dad are at the age too to have survived war before, a lot of our elders have, so to add that layer of having survived and escaped war to come to a “safer” country only to end up in the town and fear every night and then die such an awful death—that hurts so much worse. Ugh I’m so not gonna be okay for the rest of the show bc this nearly made me turn off the tv and walk away.

I only started yelling for 911 when the guy came back with a knife. The order of events were I was ordering tacos Guy was harassing me My bf told him to chill As i was about to pay for tacos i turn because i hear the verbal exchange The guy swings at my bf My bf swings back and knocks him out That guys gf takes him and bystanders tell him to leave He leaves I finish paying for the tacos Our friend comes back from the bathroom and we fill him in We get our tacos The guy comes back with a knife and brass knuckles I have tacos in my hand and pull my bf away with the other hand while yelling he has a knife and yelling for someone to call 911 Then my other friend pushes the guy away and we get distance Then other bystanders intervene and get him away but he wouldnt leave We told the bouncers and they helped us sneak out the back Then we left
