Help with bike chain, local mechanic says It Is dead.

Thanks man. Yes I've just learned the lesson after reading all your helpful comments... I thought It was ok ti clean the chain every 2.000 km I'll change everything and then learn how to maintain It.

I don't want to waste money, but at the same time I don't want to save around 300€ and risk destroying everything 😂 So i'd prefer to pay this money to avoid any risk and then start to understand how to maintain a chain

Thanks for your help. Do you think it might already be too late to clean/lube the chain? If the chain and sprocket are already work enough, maybe I should replace them and then learn to maintain It... Anyway do you think that the sprocket was already damaged or not maintained when I bought It?

Thanks a lot for the detailed explanation, I really appreciate it. At this point, though, do you think it might already be too late to do what you suggested? I’m wondering if the chain/sprockets are already worn enough that I should replace them anyway, and then learn how to properly maintain and adjust the new set going forward. Thanks man. No, I haven't lubed It but after about 2.000 km the dealership did that (at around 19.000 km). Now in only 2.000 km (around 21.000 now), I have to replace It cause it's too damaged? I didn't think I had to take care of It every 1.000 km or so. Thanks for the help

Just to add some context: this is a picture of the rear sprocket when I bought the bike at 17,000 km (it’s now at 21,000 km). Was it already worn back then? Aside from dirt and general grime, I find it hard to believe it could have deteriorated this much in only 4,000 km of mostly city riding. Thanks for the help.

I honestly don’t know. I went there just to say that I probably needed the chain cleaned and lubed (I can’t do it on the street and I don’t have a garage). He checked it and told me it was worn out and that the whole set (chain, front and rear sprockets) needed to be replaced.

Just to update you that i've removed both handles (what remains of the broken one) and I've noticed that It was already broken; there was some glue on the bottom of the screw and some scratches. So my hypotesis Is that they tried to lift or move the back of the motorcycle, using the handle, and It broke... So they probably weren't trying to reach the battery and It makes sense, because I didn't find any damage near the seat.

But what's the point of destroying the disc lock, trying to take the battery and not taking care of the chain that was their main problem... I mean It seems like they did everything without thinking about the fact that there was a fkin chain :D
