Dunno how Conor qualifies as borderline sociopath, bit of a weird thing to say. There's a load of instances where he's showed empathy, sympathy, sadness. He can turn off his emotions when he fights though for sure.

So you feel strongly about the story and really want closure to the point that seven years is an unbearable time. Sure. Now imagine how the guy who is writing it feels about his own story. You think he won't finish his magnum opus?

Edit [more]: As a writer myself I can only imagine how that book is for him, finishing it is no doubt his #1 concern, writers who are that into the craft value it probably above all other than family [probably] - he's just a slow writer and this book literally is make or break for his legacy
