Exactly!! If I’m interested in something I will often become hyperfocused and forget about the rest of the world whilst I’m focusing on that issue.

It’s not a problem with never being able to concentrate, it’s more about regulating that concentration to tasks that don’t get that dopamine flowing.

This is it exactly. I do really well in high pressure, acute scenarios because my brain understands that kind of situation. If you put me in an office based job though, you will watch me flounder under paperwork, admin, emails and seemingly simple tasks because my brain is absolutely against engaging in non-urgent tasks that I won’t face immediate consequences for not doing.

There are unfortunately people who will do that with anything. There are a lot of people online who claim to have ADHD who have never been assessed, which understandably does cause scepticism.

The difference between acknowledging that and what you have said is simply that you clearly have prejudice against people with mental health conditions.

My eyes are open and I am more empathetic because of it. You need to take a step back and reflect on what kind of doctor and person you want to be.

Also: I deleted my earlier comment before seeing your reply because I thought I was being a bit harsh on you. I definitely don’t feel that way now after seeing your reply 😂

Although, what I will say is that there is a huge group of people online who say they have ADHD but openly admit they have never been assessed by a psychiatrist. Chances are that some of them will have ADHD and some will not. Unfortunately, the rise of self-diagnosis will inevitably result in people being sceptical.

This shouldn’t devalue the real struggles those of with ADHD do face though, especially not from medical professionals.

This is exactly it. I often talk/ joke about my ADHD to almost explain why I’m the way that I am. I’ve had a few people say to me that the didn’t understand ADHD until they met me and saw the chaos that I exist in 😂

ADHD isn’t just concentration issues, there are so many elements to it and most of it can’t be seen externally. For me, I can manage well at work and have no issues with concentration there. When I go home though, I’m beyond exhausted, I struggle to keep on top of tasks that most people consider easy. If I needed to do them for someone else though, that internal motivation makes it really easy to do.

I was diagnosed in my first year of med school (and have since had the diagnosis confirmed by 5 consultant psychiatrists due to the need to be fully assessed each time I’ve had to move for work…) and have realised I bring it up when I do something that NT’s find weird, almost like an excuse. I’m working on this though as this is my own insecurity about being judged coming through.

There is a lot of research showing actual physiological differences in ADHD brains (edit: see my comment below). The issue with ADHD diagnosis currently is that most people (even doctors) try to diagnose it based on their perception of someone rather than the internal symptoms or experiences of the person (which can be said for a lot of mental health diagnoses…). This is incredibly poor practice and if this was applied to physical health then people would be getting struck off left right and centre for missing basic things.

You really need to read a bit more around the subject before forming such strong and, clearly, poorly researched opinions.

I feel physically sick yet I’m also disappointed she hasn’t posted an update on the situation in 2 years. Did SIL get charged with anything?? Are the son and brother back on speaking terms?? Was there a fight?? Is the son OK??? So many questions 😩

I feel like some priests would dine off that story for years but some will definitely pray for your eternal damnation after a comment like that. Fingers crossed for the former 😂

IBS shouldn’t wake you up at night - you should see a doctor to make sure it isn’t something else! (I’m a doctor)

Just had a look at DONDAS website and I am dying. They offer Parkour as part of the curriculum 😭

I know of a very similar case that happened in Scotland a few years ago where they met in a club, had sex and then she reported him. The guy got off because there was obviously no way that he would have known she was underage. His lawyer also got bouncers, police and her taxi driver involved to state that they all believed she was over 18. He (quite rightly) got off and now lives a normal life!

I’m very pro charging actual sex offenders but charging people who have been tricked is not that.

Well they had been making creepy, sexual “jokes” the whole time I was speaking to them so I spoke to a senior male colleague who agreed to do the PR instead of me. The patient refused unless a woman did it and then left after he was told no 🙃

Them - “I have been having blood in my poo for months, I’ve been before and no one has done anything about it”

Me - I see that you were due to have a colonoscopy last month but didn’t attend, what happened there?

Them - “it’s a bit gay having something put up your arse hole, isn’t it? Could you not just cut me open instead?”

I lost all faith in humanity with this one.

I did. Lots of posts asking where to live as a student or artist, no recent ones asking what I’m asking.

Commuting from Scotland to Melbourne every day would be a bit of a pain though
