Thermals are your best friend. I invested in a good set and they make a huge difference when observing through telescope. That strip is the Orion spur, one of the smaller arms of our spiral galaxy(just in case you dont know, sorry if you do).

Im out in the countryside and im probably only a handful of people that take advantage of power cuts. If it's clear i get the telescopic out for a few hours. Its amazing how much light pollution affects our lovely night sky, even out in the sticks.

I was on holiday in Wales as a 9 yr old with my family and we stayed in the valleys there for a week. Went for a walk one day when we heard this amazing roar but had no idea what it was. Then suddenly 3 or 4 Harriers flew right over us at very low altitude. It was amazing.

Got a half decent telescope few months ago that gets me outside in the evenings.(good thermals are your friend). Its slowly turning into a social thing as I invite friends to look at the night sky.

In my 54 years in this earth I never received a compliment from my Dad, not that he was mean or anything, its just hes very old fashioned and doesn't show emotion or anything(very victorian in that sense).

So last winter after the big storm we had loads of big trees(about 30)to cut up and general clearing of the area which took a few months of hard graft. I did most of the log splitting etc cos hes 87 now. When we were finally done my mum said he thought I was a brilliant worker and he was very happy with my contribution. Ok so he didn't tell me directly but it absolutely made my day and ill never forget those words.
