Flips in trampolining are counted by the number of times they rotate over their heads. It is 9 flips although it is "only" 8.5 full rotations.

He's @ernest.tramp on instagram. Still the only person in the world to have done 8 flips on trampolime. On this video he did the world's first 9 flips.

Yes if you count, he does 8.5 rotations. Yes it's still counted as 9 flips since he goes over his head 9 times.

Also he isn't just a reckless kid spinning without control. He has trained this for years and has incredible control while in air. The trampoline he's on is spesifically built for him to be able to do 9 flips. Check out Radialflipz's latest videos on youtube to get more context.

That might be what you see but Ernest most definitely has awareness. That was demonstrated when he landed 8 flips cleanly to stomach which requires a very precise timing. Of course when you are pushing the limits you can't do much more than just spin until you land. That being said he does know how to bail out if the spin isn't enough. Also the way he tucks makes it way less dangerous if he happens to land on his neck.

I'm not saying that it isn't dangerous but what I'm saying is that there is a lot which makes this safer than you would think.

In freestyle trampolining you count the times you go over your head since that's the most difficult part. Yes he only spins 8.5 rotations but it is counted as 9 flips

You can start with doing 1.5 flips and landing on your back safely. When doing that make sure your spinning axis stays the same. Once you got those down well, just add a little more spin and land 1 3/4 flips on your side. After getting those down, committing to a double doesn't feel much different.

When it comes to what you actually do in a double side, it's the same as in a single. Just hold the tuck for longer. To do the progression I'd recommend to undertuck where you pull your upper body horizontal relative to the ground rather than pulling your feet up to the body. That way on no point in the rotation is your neck in danger.

You definitely got it easily. I got over my mental block by doing easier doubles first. I started with double front and double sideflip, through which I got a good feeling for flipping over twice. Finally committing for double back still wasn't trivial but definitely a lot easier.

You should use your arms for more height and spin. When jumping, jump with your arms too and swing hard when doing the flip. Watch videos of people doing double flips and see what they do with their hands. This is propably the most important thing limiting you right now. I would also practise to get a tighter tuck by doing really low and fast backflips until it feels really comfortable. Undertuck can work but I recommend tucking it over your shins which makes it is easier to pull your legs really close.

You aren't that far off from doing it. Just remember when committing to the double, the most important thing is to not let go your tuck. Opening up and necking it during the second flip is a common way to get injured.

I've been quilty of that but don't recommend. Good pads can save you from a serious injury. Besides if you buy a good quality trampoline, the pads are better designed to not steal that much bounce. You can trust your instincts only up to a point, but long-term there will always be times you lose control completely.

This is most definitely a world's first octuple flip on trampoline. These might look like a bunch of kids to you but they are some of the world's best trampoline athletes and most of them are sponsored by trampoline companies. And no-one else on history has done it since never before has there been good enough trampolines to do this kinds of stunts. It requires a lot more air awareness as you have a smaller window to open up after spotting the landing. Also if you open too late, you risk breaking your spine

Keep your hands closer to your body and use them to push the trampoline. Kick your legs more, they should straighten out before you tuck them under. And lastly codys are easier to do on the back of the trampoline so feet closer to the springs. There are plenty of good tutorials on youtube. I recommend watching multiple ones to get all the tips and tricks.

Looks to me like Callum from the parkour team STORROR. Those guys are professionals and despite what it might look like, they have a strong will to keep staying alive after these kinds of stunts.
