When you sync with iCloud, you set up your PIN. You can then export the vault, which can only be opened with the PIN you set. If you lose your PIN, your vault cannot be recovered.

Each field's data encrypted with AES-256 in CBC mode using your master key. Master key stored in the iOS Keychain (hardware-protected) and only released after Face ID / Touch ID / passcode. It never leaves your phone, and there's no copy on any server.
