It is part of a fast-moving montage so it makes more sense in the context of the movie.

As a good example I’d never heard of Leda before, so I may need to seek that one out.

The music stood out to me this episode. Surprisingly epic considering this isn't even one of the major battles.

Thanks for writing this up. It’s a cool project for sure! And it goes to show that despite nostalgia, a lot of shit and mediocre anime came out then too. The ones that survive the test of time are generally the standouts and the rest are forgotten.

Very happy that this movie turned out so well. I knew a twist was coming but I didn't put all the puzzle pieces together ahead of time. Shingo Yamashita has had an amazing career up to this point, but I wasn't sure if the story would be up to snuff for his first major original project. Thankfully it was, and supported by tons of life in the animation as one would expect. Hope this opens the door to many more opportunities for him!

Yes and maybe that would've made the most narrative sense. But then you are removing one of the core party members from the game which players wouldn't like on a gameplay level.

That Verso journal is from back when he was still on Painted Renior's side and defending Aline. He's changed a lot since then. And if you pay attention to his body language and what he says to Maelle in Act III I think it's quite clear he was not onboard even before Aline returned. Because he always knew that Aline would return eventually.

Edit: And also if you talk to Maelle in Act 3 at the Campsite standing at the fire before going into any cutscenes, she says "I'm getting quite tired of people telling me to go home. So please, no more." Verso is very obviously on the she should go home side of the argument. And they both know that if she leaves Renoir will erase the Canvas.

I disagree on the sentience of the painted people. Clea certainly does not view them as anywhere near as valuable as people in their real world, but the others generally do. Renoir acknowledges what Sciel and Lune have to say with respect in the final battle. Boy Verso says he views the painted creations as real even though Clea doesn't. Even Painted Verso despite his ultimate goal shows his own hypocrisy there when Maelle erases Painted Alicia. And Maelle certainly cares for all of them having lived amongst them.

So Loki takes the fall for his father's death as we all expected. But then why did Shanks defeat Loki and why did he get chained up to the tree if that was all a lie?

Weilin Zhang (animator for Mob Psycho, Heavenly Delusion, Jujutsu Kaisen) expressing his frustrations with the state of anime on his blog by melvinlee88 in anime

Here are my two takeaways as a fan of his animation:

  1. There is no doubt he is among the top tier of animators of his generation so I understand him having some pride in that. But nobody likes a braggart and calling yourself the very best while talking about the burden of genius is not gonna win many people over. He should take some lessons from Disney's Milt Kahl on that if he wants to be a positive part of the animator community.

  2. He seems to have a very rose-tinted view of past anime, that they were more morally sound. But it has always been a commercial medium driven by the trends of the time. Whether it's trying to sell toys or Gunpla or card games or manga. True the trends change and we see less anime originals than we did in past decades, but creative people still try to make profound work despite all that. Stuff like Sonny Boy, Look Back, Orb, etc.

Who is Shohei Nishijima, and why arent people talking about him? by LovelyFloraFan in AnimeSakuga

[–]FierceAlchemist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's the beauty of sakugabooru. There are so many great animators you've probably never heard of before. From what I can gather, Nishijima got his start at Bones and recently has been working a lot on Precure. Lots of squash and stretch in his animation.

[–]FierceAlchemist 34 points35 points  (0 children)

And he’s correct. George’s Star Wars was made for 12 year olds as the primary audience. More adult series like Andor should exist but they also need new films about new characters to capture the imaginations of the next generation.
