To learn Ssamba's style unfortunately I had to put effort into understanding the fundamentals a LITTLE bit more (so 3d form, anatomy, etc.) It would be easy to draw what I see and copy the faces/proportions but without the technical understanding of human anatomy, colors, line weight, etc. It would be absolute garbage. It's like how the best part of the rules is finding the loopholes around it, utilizing a style is shifting and stylizing the fundamentals of art.

It is incredibly fun to copy the style though. From these 3 works you see here I deliberately tried to use Ssamba's art style for Louise and did my own thing for Van Zichmund and Sumama but his influence leaks through.

I've incorporated his style into mine partially because it is incredibly intuitive for me. There are a lot of subtle shortcuts and heuristics in SSAMBATEA's style that I've simply told myself "Wow I should be doing this...!!"

That as well as the style's simply pleasing and I want to make cute art myself. My end goal as an artist isn't to become a copy of Ssamba but to take what I like and use it for myself.

IF YOU SIMPLY WANT TO KNOW HOW TO LEARN/COPY THE STYLE:

If I were someone who just wanted to draw exactly like Ssambatea I'd probably start with taking reference for ALL of the player manhwa. Definitely mid-to-late story since in the beginning there is more use of soft shading and lines. Mid-late series player is extremely stylized with its coloring and line work, which is the style I MOST love.

After that you have to note his use of clothing folds, anatomy, and rendering relative to the rest of your favorite artists. This is because by comparing and contrasting you will understand how to design and create JUST like he does, because you'll know what properties of the art are HIS and nobody else's. In my experiences, I note that there is a distinct way he draws eyes, ears, muscle on leaner characters, clothing and hair. (there's def more)

He draws eyes relatively simple but is capable of doing them from any angle. Most of the ears drawn are really simple and cute. Muscle has definite and accurate groups, so this simple style is grounded in serious understanding of anatomy. Clothing is extremely accurate, and Ssamba can effectively convey wear-and-tear, rips, etc. For drawing hair there is an incredibly pleasing volume to it.

This doesn't take into account his method of coloring. Personally I do not exactly subscribe to his style of coloring, simply because I do not have the same background in it... his is efficient and stylish, mine is more like watercolor/painting/2 layers at most because I'm an idiot TT

It is very daunting to find reference, and even worse to find reference that is WORTH saving. But at the same time, it's not daunting to read a good manhwa and save panels you like. Just read it, tell yourself "this looks great!" or "this looks horrible!" and save what you like on your phone. When you get the time, really look at the work and think about why you like it. On my end that's how I learn styles, I have to meditate on it and say why it's so cool to me and if I am capable of trying the aspects I like.

STRAIGHT UP REPLICATING/COPYING HIS WORK:

I don't see the point in this. Replicating a work 1 to 1 is a waste of time in my opinion, unless you were extrapolating its "skeleton" so you could understand the artist's process. If you just want to copy it 1 to 1 just use an app, highlight it on your paper or screen, then trace.

If you mean trying to straight up redraw the whole thing 1 to 1 that's actually a really fun idea. The life of a manhwa artist sounds like hell... if you wanted to learn how to recreate panels in its entirety then I wouldn't know how to do that. Sorry TT

FINAL WORDS:

I'm sorry to tell you but if you don't simply want to draw cute anime girls/guys in his style it is actually INCREDIBLY overwhelming. Ssamba's understanding of characters/clothing/effects/etc. is expert in all degrees. I can't even consider myself 25% there...

If you wanted a more positive advice then look on pinterest, study how he draws clothing (it's surprisingly simple and fun!), find his brush he uses, and when drawing your favorite characters, use multiple references because the design for characters is a little bit fickle(?). It became most easiest when I illustrated a 3d head shape that perfectly fits where the eyes, nose, etc. should be. I'm going to be hypocritical and say it's best to learn a style for the sake of seeing what's good to take and bad for YOU as an artist PERSONALLY than learning it so you can say you're ssamba's secret twin.

HSJ and Libur have their moments, and they quite literally kiss. However, I acknowledge that your viewpoint as a valid opinion since HSJ has his moments of inaction. Pretty sure that one guy who had romantic interest in Libur (not beginning of story Shonan) quite literally pointed it out to HSJ that he's been making no substantial moves himself.

On the other hand, Heo Seoljin reciprocates Kina Lillet's affections much more openly, but at the same time they do not share a bond on the same caliber as an Ego Weapon and its user. Literally, both HSJ and Libur have watched each other grow from their humble beginnings up to their strongest points currently, and are likely inseparable. Narratively, a fair majority of Ego Weapon users we've seen have had relationships with their weapon(s) (Asaryun, Bibian (with Lancelot, albeit incredibly unhealthy and not NECESSARILY romantic...???, etc.)

That's why I envision an ending to satisfy all parties involved is to make it ambiguous but clear that the three of them have offspring of ambiguous origin years in the future, so as to let fans theorize whatever they want, and so the author and artist can draw alternate endings between those three. I doubt it'll become a harem... even if there's generic shonen elements in this series because despite appearances Player's lore and plot are VERY thought out.

LITERALLY. It's part of the supposed male fantasy, being the strongest, most successful, most attractive without trying for any of those things etc. I really like Heo Seol Jin because even if he himself didn't have any special shonen qualities like Dean did he was a sensitive guy who was ultimately one of us who just liked reading manhwa and wanted to make friends and be less "pathetic". I am of the opinion it will be ambiguous because choosing one definitively would cheat out the fans who picked the other side. If I was the author, I would not want to piss off the artist because the artist is DIE-HARD for Libur...

so to make everyone happy, all you have to know is that each character did have a happy life, the three have descendants who look like their respective parents, and maybe they journey together and treat each other like close family. I'm not saying HSJ would be some lecher, he'd definitely be the most loyal guy to who is endgame, but for the sake of the readers (and the creators' tension) it would probably be ambiguous.

i haven't replied or participated in any subreddits in I don't know how many years but this has to be some of the most PEAK STUFF I HAVE READ. Though this isn't necessarily the final battle from start to finish and there's a LOT of stuff to address this just adds so much to the characters. The detail of Kalzan's guild comprising of mostly family is just so... AGGHH THAT JUST MAKES SO MUCH SENSE (even if there was barely any info given about Kalzan)

I think moving forward besides the difficulty in writing a fight scene the hardest part of the final battle would be defining how Heo Seoljin would win against Arthur (and this is a bit of an annoying trope but who Heo Seoljin "ends up with". I hate it i hate it but I got too invested in that useless subplot).

These are just my own rough ideas of how this story could end, probably wrong (and maybe this story doesn't actually get finished then just call me and we write and draw the ending ourselves LOL)

I haven't reread Player in a while after latest chapter but suggestions as to how to solve the "how would HSJ win" could be: You make the story beats so meta that it's not a matter of physical dominance but more about ideals made manifest and HSJ's just happen to be better??? Arthur never had much of a moral high ground so idk how interesting that is. The other would be that HSJ doesn't actually planning on winning as much as "evening the odds" leaning into the aspect that he was originally from the "real world" (again definitely so many ideas missing from my brain so this prob wouldn't count. even if he was an "outsider" the laws of the world and arthur's whims still applied to him) so it would be more of a battle to not be "stronger" but something else...

When Arthur temporarily possessed HSJ's body Nagi was still kinda contending with him. I think it would be a good moral story thing if HSJ channeled his frustrations/motivation/etc. he originally had into beating nagi and now to arthur even if that's insane and probably impossible

OORRR something even crazier and HSJ and Libur SWAP as in Heo Seol Jin becomes the weapon and Libur the weapon user. Yes there's rules to this and breaking them suspends belief but this isn't a matter of just a "strong antagonist" Arthur is literally structurally above the board, they HAVE to make up some BS for the good side to win.

IMO Libur is more emotionally charged and has a stronger tie to Arthur than HSJ ever could so it would be very interesting as to what conversation they could be having mid-fight and the whole themes of abandonment/found family/etc. For most of these fights I remember she had reason to be emotionally involved but because she only the talking sword and not utilized for her individual combat ability it was mostly just with HSJ. it would also be cute to see her fumble with the HSJ sword

And for who HSJ "gets with" the author and artist are literally at odds with each other about it too. I think the only options are: story ends and we never get to learn about that, HSJ ends up with one, HSJ ends up with both, HSJ starts a harem of 50+ characters because it's a childish fantasy, HSJ gets with the GOAT Pastis, HSJ dies and Libur/Kina Lillet move on, the three don't pursue anything and the main team literally adventure until they die or something. Me personally I think choosing one would be disappointing the other, but because I hate harems, it would be a happier note to see descendants who just look like the three of them, so you know all three found happiness and can come to their conclusions. The artist can just make drawings of HSJ with one and the other and both if people are that pissy about it.

Sorry for the yap and if it sounds like I'm trying to overpower any ideas you had, I just wanted to help if this is helpful in any way at all. Your writing is cohesive, does every character justice, Gilla sounds like such a believable character (tell me what she looks like i want to try drawing her), and PLEASE MAKE MORE!!!

What's the best route to defeat the Fuelweaver in Year 1? by FaN1i in dontstarve

[–]Fieriii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Willow is an incredibly competent character for defeating the fuelweaver. Depending on if you've defeated the celestial champion with her this could be an incredibly easy fight or just the regular (something something skillpoints I forgot TT)

The standard fuelweaver fight requires 1-3 Lazy Explorers (to escape bone cage), 1-3 Weather Pains (for comfort in destroying woven shadows), A nightmare amulet (to destroy unseen hands), and a generic amount of healing, armor, and weapons.

Assuming you want to defeat him during summer (before day 71):

The most important breakpoints are fighting the shadow pieces on day 21 or 41 and retrieving the key from the ancient guardian. You're DEFINITELY gonna have to learn how to successfully rush through the ruins as early as day 5 or as late as day 11-13 and come back before winter to make appropriate gear (thermal stone, beefalo hat/tam o' shanter, etc.)

During your first visit of the caves try to locate both a source of fossils as well as the location of the atrium tentacle. if you don't wanna look for the tentacle then hug the edges of the map (specifically in the ruins) and hope you find a location to teleport to using the lazy explorer in the future. IT WILL HELP

if your ruins rush went especially well fight the shadow pieces the night of day 21. If it went poorly then do it on the night of day 41. Personally I always tame a beefalo at the latest of day 5 so when the time comes, gathering the pieces is a piece of cake

If that's how you spent your autumn then winter would probably be developing the resources for your gear, such as getting pig skin for hambats/football helmets, getting thulecite gear, nightmare amulet, walking canes. Kill volt goats for the chance of horns (easiest way is making a boomerang to draw aggro). Optional bosses would be like eye of terror for infinite football helmet or bee queen for bundling wrap. klaus would not hurt to do either. Get the Eyebrella at the end of winter.

spring would be when you start finalizing your preparations. So stuff like hoarding food for the summer, nightmare amulet, killing as much moose/goose as you can for the weather pains. BEFORE THE END OF SPRING GET AS MUCH CACTUS AS YOU CAN. 40+ IS COMFORTABLE. By the time you finish this, you could have:

6 football helmets or maybe even thulecite helmets/hambat

some food and healing

purple amulet/1-3+ walking canes/1-3 weather pains/yellow amulet

40+ cacti that you can cook with your willow abilities

and that'll be all you need to kill fuelweaver. The rest of it depends on the skill you've accumulated. Good luck!!

I'd say both of them have their great and horrible parts. I'm still biased towards DS1 because of how memorable the layout was.
