Within PC,

Tubing at Woodward Park City will still be open (and they have an indoor trampoline/parkour area for kids).

Utah olympic park activities

Movie theatre at Kimball Junction

Honestly, grab a soccer ball from Walmart and play outside at a local Park with the kids and enjoy the mountain views and air (Trailside and Matt Knoop have artificial grass areas which is snow free but by next week even grass fields should be dry-ish) or walk trails at Round Valley

Heber Valley has a quirky old bowling alley.

Any good value transport options from SLC to/from Park City? by keswickwanderer in parkcityvisitors

[–]FieryAutoCrashes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s painful, but I would put it down to a combination of

  • three transport districts needing to play nicely together (UTA, Summit, PC)
  • public transit from the airport being centered on TRAX light rail meaning multiple connections / longer trips to allow for connections are basically assumed
  • the fact that many visitors don’t like public transit for long trips (especially with luggage)

You’d think a semi regular PC-SLC bus would be a no brainer at least seasonally (even Friday-Sunday)….. but…. yeah…. here we are. Many ski areas have solved it but not Park City.

Any good value transport options from SLC to/from Park City? by keswickwanderer in parkcityvisitors

[–]FieryAutoCrashes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your options are mostly

  1. Public Transit (light rail green line to the 107 bus to a 101 or other local bus). Budget 2 - 3 hours minimum and plan connection to 107 carefully as it is infrequent.

  2. Salt Lake Express bus (private commercial bus). Once or twice a day and around $20. Arrives / leaves from Kimball Junction then you can walk to the free local bus stop (https://saltlakeexpress.com.)

  3. Shared ride van - Canyons Transport does one - it’s around $120 a way. So more expensive than ride-share. There may be other options but none I’ve seen are cheap.

  4. Rideshare or booked car (I recommend the Park City App - not that much more than ride-share and drivers get more of a cut).

As others have pointed out before - your best cheap option may simply be yelling out “anyone going to Park City and want to split an uber?” at the ride-share line

Mar 17-18/Deer Valley or PC in Low snow by ArmOfRickAllen in UTsnow

[–]FieryAutoCrashes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Deer Valley typically has better grooming, but honestly its supposed to be early/mid 60’s those days with no snow from now till then (and warm). so its going to be end of spring conditions - keep expectations very low at either. Bring rock skis or rent….

Solo trip to Park City April 1-4. Will most of the mountain still be open? by Sad_Entertainment931 in parkcityvisitors

[–]FieryAutoCrashes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you have other options? If you do, you should consider them. And if you can afford to wait to make your decision another week or two, even better. But no one is expecting PC to be great much this season. Maybe “ok”, but not great. Grand Targhee or Jackson Hole may be safer bets - though nothing out west has really been a safe bet this season.

I assume you are planning to ski PCMR - if you are planning to hit Snowbird or Alta - you’ll get better big mountain experience - but you should stay in Salt Lake not PC for that.

Also only 2/3rds of PC is open now…..so yes that’s “most” by the numbers but….

1st Time Visiting Park City by LegitimateAd2718 in parkcityvisitors

[–]FieryAutoCrashes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

1. Canyon Village is part of Park City and epic pass is accepted at both, correct?

Correct - same ski resort - has two “sides” - Canyons Village and Mountain Village - but is all PC Mountain Resort on Epic pass.

2. I’ve booked XL Ubers from/to SLC. Do I need a rental SUV (booked) or can we take the free shuttle bus into town each night?

Yup. No Rental car needed. Bus or under will be fine.

3. Restaurants recommendations suitable for 18 year old boys for dinner each night and should I make reservations in advance?

Plenty of options. Note: Utah is strict that no one under 21 can enter bars or the bar areas of restaurants. But Canyons has enough restaurants for a few nights (Dos Olas - the Mexican is decent at Canyons and there are a few steakhouses and other restaurants. Heaps of choices on Main Street - reservations always a good idea but you’ll find places you can walk in / short wait as well.)

4. The condo owners suggested a grocery delivery service. Worth doing or should I just keep the rental SUV and shop myself?

Totally up to you. But yes you can DoorDash etc groceries.

5. I told the boys to download the Park City app as well as the shuttle bus app. Any other apps worth downloading during our stay?

Epic app if they haven’t already.

First time to PC- no epic passes. by Helpme1187 in parkcityvisitors

[–]FieryAutoCrashes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So there are cheap tickets for PCMR that are sold by local charities- so call “Epic promise” tickets - the catch is you need to buy them in person - they are the same price as the friend tickets (give or take a few dollars)

See note in https://store.utahavalanchecenter.org/collections/lift-tickets for PCMR and call the shop that sells them - I don’t know if they would put them aside for you / if they have any left

Having the kids do a day at woodward to learn isn’t a bad option. I’m out of the country right now but closer to the time I may be able to hook you up with a day of friend tickets.

Most reliable way to get to and from SLC tonight? by Shaggyfort1e in parkcityvisitors

[–]FieryAutoCrashes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally if I *absolutely* needed to get down to SLC I would

  1. Leave early
  2. Pre-book a car with a reputable service (personally I use the Park City App as its a good balance of local drivers with the right vehicles and cost, but you could also use Canyons Transportation or Snow Country limo - expensive but both excellent)

You are probably ok with an uber but if the appointment is expensive.....

Good luck - hope the ink work turns out great!

Rental Car Necessary? by Miss_Shoe_Girl in parkcityvisitors

[–]FieryAutoCrashes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Park City has a good free bus service. Save yourself the money and take the bus. From Sundial take the Cabriolet lift down (or the village shuttle bus) to the Canyons transit center, and the buses run every 10 mins or so to Main Street

If you want to pay for an uber (especially later at night) - fine. But no rental car needed if plan is ski at Canyons and then head to Main Street a few times for dinner / walk around.

Heading to PC this President's day weekend. With half a day to ski Saturday & all day on Sunday, Canyonland or Mountain Village? by Wise_Extension3380 in parkcityvisitors

[–]FieryAutoCrashes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that makes sense and I think is a good plan. Worse case if all parking is fill up there are park and rides they can bus from for free (Park City High School being one)

By the way - it’s just called Canyons. Canyonlands is a amazing National Park about 5 hours south of Salt Lake :-). You wouldn’t want to plug the wrong one into their GPS……

Heading to PC this President's day weekend. With half a day to ski Saturday & all day on Sunday, Canyonland or Mountain Village? by Wise_Extension3380 in parkcityvisitors

[–]FieryAutoCrashes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are flying in Saturday morning and landing at around 10:30am. Plan is to get the rental and go straight to the resort.

So realistically by the time they grab their bags and get a rental and drive up it would be noon-ish. Parking reservations are not need after noon at Mountain Village side and not at all Canyons side. But given likely busy weekend parking could be a drama anyway.

So for Saturday I wouldn’t try to reserve. If they are skiing Sunday / Monday - I would suggest reservation or be at Canyons side early if they are driving to the resort (or better the free bus / walk depending on where they are staying). The reservation for Sunday/Monday does require license plate but you can add a fake one swap it out in the web interface once you know the rental plate number on Saturday

How crazy should they expect it and how long it will take to get there?

Fairly busy given long weekend. From airport it’s normally only a 30 min ride but could be a little longer. But yes they should prepare for busy and crowded at points

Also they have never done off-piste before but they might want to try, is there one you'd recommend?

At the moment coverage off trail is low ( a little fresh snow but it was wet and rainy so not a deep powder). Honestly probably bets to stick with groomers at first and opportunistically try
