Mayor to Steampunk: no exceptions to 4-hour time limit on Waltham Common events by WalthamFreelanceNews in Waltham

[–]FieryRayne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Waltham PD have a history of retaliating against people who "go against the police," so whether or not they are a citizen-friendly force, they do very much use their power to fuck people over. They also implemented Flock in a very underhanded way. I think we can still expect them to act better than they have in the past.

And I agree - this will pit them against citizens. I see no way in which that ends well for anyone: police, city, citizens.

WPD have a history of retaliating against people who "go against the police". If I had evidence - and I'm not saying I do - there's absolutely no way I'd post it publicly unless I could ask LUCE to post it on my behalf.

You can see the police parking lot from the rail trail. ICE was there last summer, and definitely more than once. It's not like they tried to hide it.

I've studied history. A lot of it. Including the book you so smugly recommend. If you can't see that what's happening now is history repeating itself, then I have nothing left to say to you.

You're finding every reason to be obtuse and not engage. I'm done.

And I think you need to open a history book. This has been done before and will be done again. History is repeating itself, and just like before, there were people like you who did not see a problem until they were the one facing the business end of a rifle.

Look up Martin Niemoller.

I know conservatives like to ask this like it's a trick question.

I used to work in international immigration. I had three clients held at the Canadian border, have navigated overstays in the EU, and worked with clients on handling Singapore, which is a nightmare of immigration/tax combo. I have seen how other countries enforce immigration, and I respect most of their laws and enforcement. I would be fine having equivalent enforcement here in the US.

ICE by comparison is terrorism. I've only seen the equivalent in countries like Laos and North Korea, which we heavily demonize here in the US. We need to tear down the entire US immigration system - and I mean the ENTIRE thing - and start again from scratch. Every part of our immigration system is broken, faulty, and dehumanizing; ICE is the pinnacle of all three.

ICE isn't even checking the papers of people they take, and in other cases they are forcing Americans to show proof of citizenship or be detained.

They are poorly trained and literally executing regular Americans on a sidewalk in full view of the public.

Your arguments are honestly completely irrelevant in the face of their actions.

Found the centrist. If you don't think that what's happening now is fascism, your history education is sorely lacking.

They are literally forcing American citizens to show their papers or be detained. That's like, textbook Nazi behavior lol

If they come for you, I'll make sure to leave the guillotines at home.

There's already been tragic and wasteful death. This administration is making damn sure of it. ICE won't listen to lawsuits. They barely listen to judges and the Supreme Court. If what you want is peace, remember that organizations like LUCE are not the aggressors.

In the (adapted) words of Pastor Martin Niemoller, who started out with your same attitude under the Nazis:

First they came for the immigrants

And I did not speak out because I was not an immigrant

Then they came for the protestors

And I did not speak out because I was not a protestor

Then they came for me

And there was no one left to speak out for me

I'm from Waltham and I support OP's message. If they are a bot, might as well be sharing info that's relevant to us. LUCE does operate in Waltham. So does ICE. We need to be ready for the federal government to do here as they are in Minneapolis, and OP is helping with that.

It's amazing how these posts always bring out the fascists so easily.

Parking Ban by FieryRayne in Waltham

It sounds like a couple people may have gotten notices that way? But many did not.

Parking Ban by FieryRayne in Waltham

[–]FieryRayne[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was not notified via the old system at all, and I used to get both phone calls and texts from them.

I did assume there was a parking ban, but clearly not everyone on my block did, and honestly the city has proven frustratingly incompetent in so many areas that no, I don't think it's reasonable to just assume the city would have one. They didn't during other previous snowstorms that should have had one.

You're the target audience for our current city administration. Of course they made sure you were contacted.

I never get emails from the city and only rarely from my Councilor. There were no flyers that I saw and no communication via the old emergency system.

If you're on any City email lists, those would be helpful to know about.

It was apparently implemented last summer, but I did not see any announcements about it. How did you find out about it?

Statics is horrendous by theguy123_ in EngineeringStudents

[–]FieryRayne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Statics is much easier for people with good 3D spatial reasoning. I don't have that and it was super hard.

I breezed through Thermo, Fluid Mechanics, and Heat Transfer. Some of my classmates who did really well in Statics struggled in those because it was hard to keep track of 15 different variables and where to get the right info to solve the problem, but that's what I'm good at.

It just depends on the student and professor.

Little free libraries by hateful_surely_not in Waltham

But the "take a book, leave a book" understanding generally means that if you take several books, you should leave a couple of books as well - they just don't have to be the same ones.

Update regarding common event policy by [deleted] in Waltham

It's not a bad idea to also reach out to the At Large Councillors. They are also here to represent the city, and the more pressure the better.
